No Spark? 1980 xs650

hey everyone new guy here.
im working on a 1980 xs650
so i have a pma and a capictor, key switch from tc bros and new xs charge ignition and coil from mikes. the headlight wired to the cap and it works so i have visual power but im not getting any spark?
key switch is B G ST
do i need to run a ground from the cap to the frame?
idk what im doing wrong but im getting tired and sweaty from all the kicking.

Looking at your diagram there is no return path on the ignition system. I dont know anything about the XS charge ignition but the current running through the coil will need a path back to the source.
 
Ok just had a look on mikes XS about the XS charge ignition.
Connect the negative terminal on your reg/ rec to the chassis make it clean and tight (no rust grease etc).
Connect the black wire from the XS charge module to the chassis or better yet to the reg rec negative terminal.
 
HEY so the bike is running now.
turns out the advance rod was pushing the magnet spinnie thingy on the advance rod past the edge of the ignition charge so it wasnt generating the power.
to solve the issue i took the old plate off my pamco ignition as a spacer and now it works beautifully. had to take off the burnt up electical chip and clean it off first. hope this helps anybody with an xs charge igniton gen 3. <3 ty everyone
