November "Specials"only Stock and resto mod Contest

Thank you jetmechmarty and racerdave for the nomination. I have been so busy with building a motorcycle trailer for my son and girlfriend I did not see this till now. Not sure if the contest is closed.

My XS650SF was acquired in late 2004 with 962 miles on it. The owner brought it to Hollywood from New York and promptly burned up the clutch within the first 6 months. I purchased a bunch of parts right after and just did not get to it till the last 8 weeks or so. Here is the modifications made:

EBC clutch plates and HD springs
Boyer Bransden Micro Power Ignition
1 1/2" headers with Brit style mufflers
Mikuni VM34's, K&N pods extended 2" from the carbs, new petcocks to clear the 2 into 1 throttle cables
Metzler 880 Marathon tires
RaceTech Gold Valve with Progressive Suspension springs and a fork brace
Progressive Suspension shocks, 1 1/2" longer than stock
SS brake lines
Baja Design turn signals using machined adapters
Daytona Touring bars
Found the luggage rack in a junk yard
Some pictures when I brought it home and now

Thanks again

Lee

RaceTech Gold Valve with Progressive Suspension springs

Lee,

Are you aware that you are using conflicting technologies? Maybe it works, but I think most don't prefer it. Do you have the tuning guide? That's a sharp looking bike, BTW.

Thank you Marty. Not sure exactly what the conflicting part is. The gold valve for damping, drilled out the stock damping rods as required. I installed non stock rate fork springs from progressive suspension. Stock springs from progressive for a 79XS650 is part #11-1119, rated at 25/35 lbs/in. The ones I ordered so long ago are #11-1125. They have almost the same dimensions however are rated at 35/50 lbs/in. They are listed for a BMW. I am a bit heavier than I would like. They are working well.

The Carb Tuning guide was a godsend. I learned so much from it. The carbs I purchased were supposed to be jetted correctly however found out they were way too rich. Over the last two weeks after getting the bike running I have swapped brass a lot and learned more about carburetion than at any other time. While frustrating at times I really enjoyed the experience.

Thank again,

Lee

I can tell you which will win - the one that looks least like a Real Special. A 70s one or a modified 80s. Maybe a hard tailed 80s.

I nominate the next contest to be poor suckers who hardtailed their 80s bike.

How about SD Dave? View attachment 22515

Or......bruceduece - thought he had a nice one, if he hasn't "altered" it.

Also, fleksta or realgone. (Haven't gotten to posting their photos yet.)

Im still cleaning her up. I havent altered as far as cutting, however I did change the seat, taillight and signals. I wont have this done till spring, as were fixing to move to a new home. But thanks for the mention!
