Odd scrolling issue?

Help, I can't scroll up!
On any thread with lot's O pics, when I try to scroll up, it keeps repositioning the view to the bottom of the thread, very frustrating.
If it wrestle it hard i can get up the page but look at it wrong boom back to the bottom.
Firefox, win10
I think it has to do with pics in posts above loading, loading, loading as I'm trying to scroll up.
Eventually it works, all the pics above loaded? and I can scroll up.

I use slid bar on right to force page up. Seems after I get up a few posts it behaves normally.

I've been using Chrome mostly, but let me see if I can recreate the problem in Firefox. Do you guys know the version of Firefox you're using? Has this been a problem for a long time? Perhaps a firefox update?

How fast is your internet? Could the issue be images loading further up the page as you try to scroll up? The page is actively growing as you try to scroll?

I think it's this. Does the full image load even if just a thumbnail is shown?

I'm on a "pretty fast" spectrum cable connection via a wireless router.
I don't seem to have as many issues on other heavy pic threads.

I think that's it too. I can reproduce the issue in Chrome and Firefox. I'll look into it and see if I can find a way to fix it.

Have been experiencing this for a couple of weeks.
I blamed it on recent Firefox updates.
Now at Firefox 154.0.1, Win 10.
Reasonably fast internet, 180Mbps or so depending on VPN server.
Looks like Firefox only starts downloading pics once they need to get displayed on screen.
When scrolling down, the slider resizes while downloading and focus gets pulled away from the last screen position, jumping up to a previous position.
This keeps happening until all pics are loaded.
Same happens when I click the 'Jump to New' button.
I just pull the slider repeatedly to the end of the page, until all pics got loaded.
After that, a page works normailly.

@gggGary, try going to a page where it normally happens. Instead of scrolling up right away, give the page some time to load fully, then try scrolling up. Does it still do it?

@GLJ so it's been a problem since March of 2024?

I think this has to do with lazy loading images that Xenforo introduced in 2.2. I'm not sure if it can be fixed easily.

@Miker Vee That's good context. What's strange is the site's software hasn't been updated since March of 2024, so why the issues now? I have one idea I'm going to chase down.

This has been an issue for "a while", most of this year? my memory is great but short.
If the page was previously viewed, say in the last week, it's not an issue so about for sure image loading thing.
It's prolly a lot on me since I tend to view recent posts, so am often directed to the bottom of a thread with lots of images above the viewed post, then when I want to scroll up a few posts for context that's when the fun starts.
Bosco's excellent and picture rich threads are an excellent example.

I might have found the problem. I made a small CSS change on July 23rd and just reverted it, and it seems to have fixed it. Let me know if you guys still experience the issue.

And yes a wait fixes it but what is this "wait" thing, what can it mean? I do not understand.
Allison sez the gggGary ap does not have a wait function.

I think so it's hard for me to find a thread that I haven't already looked through recently....
+But I found one and now the pic boxes show, while the image loads inside the boxes, scrolling seems fine.

Try Ctrl + Shift + R. That should hard reload the page and not use the cache, so you can test any page you've already been on.
