• It's time to vote for the bikes you want to see in the 2025 XS650 Calendar! Vote here!

On the hunt; barn Triumph, follow along if you want.

Dont have all the facts .. But sometimes it is elderly people selling .
It can complicate
It takes longer time and they are not clear thinkers every day in the week so to speak.
Can have bad health.

I believe you did the right thing not starting problems take a step back
Would not surprise me if it changes back again .Sometimes deals take a while .

If the price was low a renegotiation maybe is possible even if it is strange
Guessing price was $ 500 ..some extra cash maybe solves it
Time and hauling quickly adds up --- Just thinking loud here.

Business deals is sometimes strange

I offered to do the selling as is for the best I can get out of it, she gets most of the money. Well see how this goes. No reason to drag it around here n there to do a sale.
So, you sell it, maybe running but not refurbished, and get commission on the sale plus costs. Yeah, that's a good offer.

It would be a shame if some hooligans got into the SOIR and made off with a couple bikes, that one included. I know a couple of those hooligans if you don’t. Might take a day for me, I mean them, to get there.😂
You know where I live. They (you) are picking me up on the way?

Easy come

I got two big hugs and bunch of apologies. But hey I netted $20 after paying the concrete guys with the chop saw.
Yes as suspected the son was the driver of the grab back. Allen the (other) old guy in the pics and the owner told her: you should have just let it go....

Totally understand your position and the whole situation from your perspective. Very commendable thing to have done. The old couple seem to b nice people. The owner of the bike admits the sale should have stood.

The son sounds like a bully and the way this has played out I think it could b considered elder abuse from the control he has had in this. Elder abuse takes many forms.

This guy is going to bad mouth this situation and you, covering his own shitty attitude towards his parents and the gracious way you have handled the whole situation.

Kama will play it's part in his life

I hope you turned it back into a non-runner before the hand over. I would have put a few 'faults' to be discovered just for the comedy effect!

I thought about that, I really did. I reinstalled the 40 year old battery and nearly let the air back out of the tires. But I figured I'd be helping get it on a trailer so............. It's far from a runner just a huff of carb cleaner is what it fired off of. 'sides it's not the bike's fault all the drama happened.

Prolly very much for the best I never got to meet the son. I did talk with her about my take on the debacle and mentioned that the son did her no favors. She claims the relationship is "very good".
I saw her driving two different late model cars. And the whole time saw no evidence that she's not "with it, rational, and thinking clearly". I wasn't stealing food from an impoverished old couple.
This would have been backburner bike project # 6 or so.
I'll be looking watching for others, LOL

Back to my regular XS bodging..

I’m lovin’ the story of this bike and all of your “as you found it” photos! Thanks for taking us along, looks like you got yourself a project there! 😃
I did a Quick Look on EBay for gas tanks and was surprised to find you can get brand new reproduction tanks from India.

They a very low quality. Weigh about 20 lbs and built with an angle grinder haha. I bought a “raw” (primed) tank and I would not recommend them. Under that paint lies a world of hurt.

I know a real tank is expensive but worth the investment.

Or fix the dents that are in this one.

@gggGary, you’ve done the honorable thing. 👍 Should have told her to tell her son, if needs help with the project, to give you a call…. Then provide some unknown phone number. lol.

I’m sure you have lotsa projects in front of you. Winters coming and wood needs a choppin’.

Too bad it didn’t work out. I would have been interested in this. My friend bought a basket case Trident a few years ago and it’s still in the “baskets”. This could have been motivation for him to start working on it.
