Any owners in the GTA (greater Toronto area) that would be interested in getting together, for a socially distanced meeting in a coffee shop / fast food parking lot? I’m in Oakville. Lmk if interested and maybe we can plan a get together to talk about our fantastic rides! I’m relatively new to the XS650 scene and could probably benefit from talking to other owners.

Hi @bosco659. It is now 6 years later so not sure you are still a 650 owner or even still live in Oakville.

I recently purchased a 1983 XS650 and just got it plated to ride on the road. The bike had been sitting for about 10 years, had some modifications, but I have brought it back closer to the original. I am about to go pick up a 1981 XS650 from someone who has been unable to sell it for some crazy reason. My friend has a restored 1974 XT650 which he regularly rides. He and I will work together on the 1981 650 to get it on the road (nothing major - we think).

Are there other 650 owners in Ontario? We are in Sarnia and London but we talked about trying to find other 650 owners in Ontario and see if we can get a local (or provincial) club going. Did anyone ever respond to you (obviously not on this site as there do not appear to be any responses).

Hope you are still around.

Yes I still have the bike and I’m still in Oakville. Nobody replied to the post so I don’t think this was the right place to get something going. Maybe Facebook? If you want to connect with other vintage bike owners, try joining up with your local CVMG (Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group). I sometimes ride out to Guelph which isn’t so far from London. If you wanted to meet one day for a coffee or a bite to eat that could be planned before riding season ends.

Thank you for all of the info. Sarnia has a CVMG chapter so I should check them out. I do know one of their members so should not be too hard.

Just had the '83 650 out for the first time today since getting it plated. Will need some time to learn the bike. Two major issues to start. The side stand it not working properly so the bike could fall over too easily. And the front brake didn't engage, which was weird since it had to engage to pass the safety. Step at a time.
