Hey everyone, looking for opinions on an interesting situation. I ordered some elephant foot valve adjusters from a vendor in BC. I ordered the more expensive Bugpack kit based on recommendations in this forum. When I received the adjusters, they were the less expensive Latest Rage adapters.

They look to be fairly well built but I’m not sure if I should keep them. I will file test them to make sure they are well hardened, but beyond that do you think it’s worth trying them or should I send them back? I was told the Bugpack adjusters are no longer available.

If I go the return route, I have a feeling the vendor is going to be difficult to deal with, which is fine if that’s the best option. My guess is that they will be similar to the Empi’s in quality but only way to tell is to run them I think.

Thanks gents 👍

Those adjusters look nicely machined and well made. I'd give them a try. I have the EMPI ones in one of my 650s. they've been in there for years and have never given me any issues. The 2nd half of that package went in my buddy's bike and same deal, been working fine for years. I do have a pack of the supposedly better Bugpack ones on the shelf for future use.

Thank you for responding so quickly. I’ve decided I’ll give them a try, won’t be able to run them much until the spring but will update the forum once I start using them. Take care.

They look pretty good to me too. I’d try them and check them after you’ve run them for a few hundred km. Are these for the motor in the bike now?

The engine in the bike now is the one I put together from random parts off three different bikes (Frankenmotor). I’ll be pulling that one and setting it aside as a standby.

These valve adjusters will go in my primary engine that I trashed the crankshaft bearings in. That engine will be in the bike come spring and hopefully give me a good run this time.

I've been running Elephant Adjusters for years. I believe they are easier on the valve tips by spreading the pressure evenly around the whole tip of the valvestem, not just where the normal stock adjuster hits. No pitting of the stem giving false adjustment setting. Mine look just like those with the screwdriver slot and not the allen wrench or wrench hex end.

Did you happen to shorten them? I will grind out the ends of the rocker arms so the adjusters sit shallower or flush, I just don’t know if shortening them is required.

Some of my rockers were sectioned out with Dremmal cut off wheels and some were just had a ball shape grinder used on the threaded hole. Ball shaped grinding was much easier to do.

I’m about to order some of the Porsche ones, just waiting to hear back from the missus friend who works for Porsche to see if I can get a sweeter deal before I shell out the £25 each they go for on eBay.

Daniel.
