I won't share his Ebay name, but here's my reply to him.

Tony,
It's a fair question. And an answer I hope you'll appreciate.

I learned to paint in the early 70's. I've painted cars, airplanes, helicopters and motorcycles. I won an award from DuPont back then for a helicopter I painted that they then went on to use in magazine adverts.

I've painted literally hundreds, if not thousands motorcycles between then and now. And used about every decal imaginable in all that time. Some are a dream to work with and some test your patience. Yours not only tested my patience... but are without a doubt the most gawdawful junk I've ever had the displeasure of running across.

I assume Mr Geotz sent you the pictures of the glue literally stuck to the face of the decals?
Care to explain how my poor painting skills caused that?
Actually, a logical explanation of how I caused that and how I can prevent it in the future would be most helpful.

Awaiting your guidance,
Jim Dent

Big balls reply, well done Sir.

I think that anybody who has an @Jim painted tank and sidecovers considers this as the only option for carrying extra gear...

Probably a dumbass question, but has anyone ever tried making their own decals ?
I've dabbled with model aircraft over the years, and one of the tricks of the more professional scale modellers was to produce their own decals.
Glue coated paper and a layer of clear lacquer followed by a carefully hand painted design.
Might be useful if what you want isn't commercially available

Why make a “decal” if you’re hand painting it.

Just paint it, no???

Got up this morning with full intentions of finishing off the Norton and shipping tomorrow. That was before I spent most of my day inside a recalcitrant dishwasher that flooded the kitchen floor.

Did manage to buff out the tank though. A bit overcast at the moment, so no sunlit pics...

Cut-n-buff is done!
"course... we can't forget the gratuitous family vacation pics, can we. ;)
They be Baraboo bound in the morning.
Hats off, @Jim. Truly beautiful. Those Norton graphics are vinyl "stickers" and not decals, right? If so, they are bound to be thicker than water-slide decals. Still no excuse for the poor quality. Also still loving the most recent XS tank too...moves me every time a see a pic of it.
