Found a few spots on the tank I'm not completely happy with. It'll have to wait 'till tomorrow.... but everything else save the headlight bucket is red.

Looking great! Better that the Haze Grey (and underway).
I know how observant the members of this forum are. Someone is probably wondering why some of the holes for the "swoosh" trim on the side covers are elongated (above).

This is the answer. I acquired some super-nice chrome-METAL trims, not the usual chrome-plastic. Problem is, not all of the mounting bayonets lined up with the holes in the side covers. Had to elongate some of the holes with the Dremel Foredom.

Wow! 😃 Nice, I didn’t even know you could get those. The plastic is cheesy and very fragile.
Except for mine, I've never seen them anywhere. And, I believe the reason is -- the mounting bayonets don't quite line up, so the manufacturer decided to scrap the whole idea of marketing them, rather than have to deal with disgruntled customers.

I believe I got them from the people behind yamahaxs650.com. Maybe they were a prototype, shipped from the manufacturer in Taiwan to Florida, where it was rejected, and I've got the only pair?

I believe what you have came from Badge Replicas in Australia. Made of metal and pins don’t align is the giveaway for me. Do they properly fit in the recessed area of the cover? They shrink when they come out of the mold. Old Bike Barn and Diablo Cycle distribute their product, IIRC.

The metal badges shrink when they come out of the mold.

I think those are Australian dollars? Not so expensive.
You’re probably right. I just looked. Old Bike Barn has dropped the product. Diablo Cycle has Badge Replica products, but has dropped several of them, including the XS-2 chevrons. I suspect it may be due to the fitment issue pointed out by @DogBunny . I’ve seen the issue up close and personal. I imagine most folks aren’t willing to modify the panel or badge to make it work.

Yes, That's what I thought, either the badge shrinks out of the mold, or the mold itself shrank when it cured.
They do fit properly in the recess. Very slightly short at the trailing ends of the swoosh, but you'd never notice it, and you'd never know unless you had a stock badge to compare to.
Great detective work. Those are exactly what I have, as evidenced by the BadgeReplicas code number on the packaging.
I got a great deal on them -- better than 1/2 the price of the above link after currency conversion and shipping -- I paid $64 to my door, less than the plastic repops.
There should really be a "some modification may be necessary" disclaimer on the BadgeReplica site.
