Painted the tank, seat, guards, headlight and callipers with 2k clearcoat this morning. Unfortunately, I can't wear glasses under the respiration so I couldn't see too clearly - bloody great run on the tank, damn.

It's been over 40 years since I used 2k, so I couldn't remember what coverage was like, how much paint I'd need, googled it in various painting forums. 2litres minimum for frame, tank, guards seat, headlight I was advised. Armed with that knowledge, I shyed away from 2k because it would have cost near as damn it to $450/$500.

Seems our painting professionals haven' a clue., I mixed up 250mm clear, 125mm catalyst and a little thinners. Got three coats down on tank, guards, seat, headlight and callipers and still had 200mm of mixed paint left.

This pic should give you some idea why painting and, polishing aren't my favourite past times. Scared the crap out of the dog.

Pics?

Here you go: All done in black lacquer then topped with 2k clear. Tank has since been polished - came up like glass! I got a small run on the rear of the tank, but managed to scrub it out. Been years since I've had a run, but!

Unfortunately, when polishing the seat I wore through the rear edge of the cowl. Rather than touch it up, I stripped it, bogged it and now waiting for the rain to clear so I can repaint - this time in 2k gloss black.

I won't be polishing it this time, nor the guards, headlight or other bits. Despite laying the 2k down really thick it's just too easy to wear through the edges and raised areas. And of course polishing 2k is not an easy job, the tank took hours.

Frame was bogged a little around the head stem, front down tubes, footpeg mount area and a couple of other spots - just minor bogging though, then painted with 2k gloss black. Definitely won't be polishing the frame, although a touch up will be needed - already have one chip on centre downtube.

I also topped the polished ally with clear, but I rushed the polishing, so it didn't meet my expectations, so some will have to be redone, forks and side covers mostly!
