Pamco Ignition

I have what I've been told is a Pamco electronic ignition on my 77. It retains the mechanical advance and alternator. I understand the flywheel markings and what they mean. I have had painful kickbacks when attempting to start and most advice says too advanced. Is there a way to static time this system? It would be helpful to have a starting point that's correct.

Dont want to complicate things here .But is the battery charged and fresh
Electronic ignitions can do strange things if wrong Voltage

Maybe this is an option
Making a marking with a pen at the current timing point
Then retard it some + notice if it gets better

I don't think it's possible to conventionally static time a PAMCO, but check out these threads in the tech section for more info.

Also, true PAMCOs (not ripoff copies) have the name on the PCB behind the disc.

Battery good. I did retard the backing plate a bit. Seemed to help with kickback but still a few. Perhaps just a bit more?

I would retard more .If the pen mark is there it can be adjusted back Dont leave it running to long
If to retarded it will say poff or shot in the exhaust pipe

Sorry, the little printed circuit board behind the disc. Never seen a goldish PAMCO disc, usually just silver - aluminum.

Also, I seen to remember a posting by Pamco Pete saying that the crank had to rotate quite a bit to get a kickback spark i.e. ~200°? Or something like that

I'll get a good light and look. All I know so far about the timing is 38° was painted inside the rotor cover. Gonna retard a bit more and see where that gets me.

I'll give that a go. Waiting on a petcock. One was leaking my expensive av gas out on the motor. Seemed like a fire hazard.
