New XS owner and new to the forum. Apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, but what is supposed to hold the fuel barb elbow into the petcock? When I picked up the bike, one elbow was out already. Messing around with the other one resulted in it coming out as well. There is a little groove that almost looks like there should be an o-ring to seat them but there doesn't seem to be the clearance for one. Is there some kind of glue or something (loctite, JB weld, etc.) that should be used to hold these in place?

I used Seal-All and safety wired it in. That was six years ago. I'm not saying it will last forever or that it's the best way but that's what I did and so far, so good.

I used a 2 part liquid epoxy on mine.

Fitting groove is there to upset the sealing interface for retention, and reservoir for loctite.
The ones I’ve had apart, I pressed them in and they don’t leak. If they did leak, my inclination would be to use a gasket sealer. Maybe Yamabond or Permatex Aviation gasket sealer.
I used epoxy on mine. Clean up well and let sit to cure properly. Lasted a decade so far.
