So starting a new thread.

I have a 81 XS650.

Currently have:

XScharge PMA kit (MikesXS), e-advance ignition, combo reg/rec that comes with it

Wired from scratch minimal with kick only no starter.

Now….

Had the capacitor installed that comes with the PMA kit. Long story short, had many issues with kit after bike got hot not running, then MikesXS sent me a replacement e-advance ignition and coil. Didn’t fix issues, running rough. Discovered that once the capacitor was removed and a small battery was used in its place the bike runs perfect.

Now the question is the battery i am using is a 4-cell lithium battery from Antigravity. The XSCharge kit says not for use with lithium batteries. The battery says max charge rate 4amps. I have seen many people who run the same setup with zero issues. My bike as of now is working great. When i first put battery in it was at 13.7 then after i got back it was 14.5. Seems to hold well in the 14s. What is the pros and cons of lithium batteries in these bike with PMA kits and what is my charge rate even at with this kit?

Took me a long time to figure this issue out but want to make sure everything is safe

Just to be clear, I suggested OP start a new thread because the "running issues" part was resolved by replacing the capacitor with a battery (and had grown to 9 pages). Now it's a question of proper system design to avoid potential overcharging dangers. Hence a new thread - my fault if there is one.

I'm not familiar with the system or regulator in question.

I can offer the following:

Thanks that was good info! So from what i gathered i see getting a rec/reg for lithiums is a good idea, but still not sure if that’s all i would need or if my battery i have now would work with the new one.
