Popping on Left Cylinder at idle

Just finished rebuilding my XS2. Getting exhaust popping on the left side with Uni-filters, just at idle.
Tried: installing the stock air filters on-Same problem.
Tried adjusting the idle screw-no help
Tried : checked the needle position- was on fourth position

Could I try going up on the clip?

Carbs have been rebuilt with new floats, etc.
The bike is running lean on the left side. The exhaust pipe is turning on the left.
The bike runs great except at idle. It does idles fine.
It does sound like the left carb. What does everyone think?

I would also look carefully at the left side header to cylinder head gasket and the header to muffler joint. A leak there can cause popping in the exhaust.

I will try that next. I always replace that gasket but ……

Could be the idle circuit if partially plugged - possible eve if they have been rebuilt. The clip position you mentioned, is that from the top or bottom. Possible intake leak?

I was also thinking the idle circuit. Stock clip position is four from the top. New manifolds and gaskets.

I will double check. I did replace the points and condenser.

Spray some carb cleaner around the intake and see if it revs. If you hit a spot where it revs even just a little you have an air leak

I took the idle screw out and sprayed air into the hole and all is well again. Must have had dirt clogging the hole up.
