I was down a rabit hole about coils, when I ran into sohc/4.net (soh4 /owers club). They are using two of these triggered by points for ignition. The points are literally just a trigger they last many thousands of miles and don't need adjustment. On the points models just an idea. I know we have gonzo now. On tci models, can we keep the components that control timing and use the tci trigger? Would there be any benefit to that? All our 1980 on have the black box control timing and spark? It is interesting one guy made his own, for 17$ tho I would love to figure this out on all tci and points. What is the average wear out part of our black boxes the timing or spark end of things. The gonzo is excellent but doesn't advance the full 20° our stock ignitions do if I remember correctly. Then again idk how much 5° of full advance means to performance and economy.

Sroll down to last about last four post. There are allot of different threads on this tho.

Looking again at gonzo, that's a little retarded which I'm ab to do anyway per xsjohhn rip, and a few others on here I'm a street cruiser so that's fine. I had it backwards I was thinking gonzo would make it harder to start. It's so close to our parameters. In all videos and results. What a score that is. It's sorting out reg rec, or doing auto parts and bridge rec.

I see now our tci pickup originally has two one for fire and one advance. So the gonzo gets wired to one or both? And can I use one of https://www.jameco.com/z/WSAA2543-V...TgKz_EglqcOZNEnmmAu5QoLe66FvSh-UVOTaqGdSNbuE5
Without a mechanicle timing set up? That's one thing I'd not do. I never understood going from crank timed to cam timed ignition. Probably allot of people are burnt out on this after the miraculous Gonzo. I am in total understanding about how well and simple gonzo is. Just trying to learn something.

I suspect you could make that work. When I was experimenting with the Gonzo, I tried several different triggers ranging from about 200Ω all the way to 700Ω. It didn't seem to really care much about the trigger... as long as it got a signal.

Gonzo gets wired to the retard coil of the TCI trigger.

So Jim do you suggest I get the pick up w a single sensor for a back up ignition? I'm getting a set of gomzo parts and auto parts reg w 3 phase electronic store rectifier. The reg rect I think I'm going to put right in. My v output is low or speratic. Im getting rear led tail stop directional combo. I think in NY I still need the stalk blinkers which I want to keep for safety anyway. Cloxks and piolet box less help allot also. I'm gonna keep my oe reg uimtil after leds. I want to see if difference is substantial.
Back to question lol side tracked by now. On tci units should we change the oe pick up for the one recommended, a single pick up unit.

That's the ooooold Velleman kit from the 70's. Not surprised it's still available. It was sold at electronics hobby shops (we had a place near Baltimore called Baynesville Radio and TV) as a replacement for straight points. This is when vehicle manufacturers were migrating to electronic control of ignition coils. Those systems still used mechanical and vacuum advance devices in the distributor. The module only controlled dwell as a function of rpm, in conjunction with the dwell setting of the points used to trigger it. Definite improvement over points, but that's about it. I actually had that kit in my '69 Falcon with a 200ci six. Biggest problem was keeping the points clean enough to properly trigger the unit, since the points only carried very low current now, instead of the higher current of the coil.
