Is it real or just another internet hoax ? My sister served 78-81 in the army. Thought it might be a nice surprise for her if it is legit.
I served ‘77 to ‘81. Would that change my veteran status/eligibility? If it were to go through, of course. That didn't take long. Short answer is No. Proposed but not authorized.
It says 9/45 to 12/91 so no, you'd be eligible.I served ‘77 to ‘81. Would that change my veteran status/eligibility? If it were to go through, of course.
I’m an unprotected vet. My benefits are very slightly better than nothing. Protected vets enjoy some benefits. They earned them!It shouldn’t change anything.
Wtf? Unprotected? Not a fan of unprotecting any vet unless they were dishonorably discharged for treason. Our government sends our boys to some foreign country to beat the shit out of terrorists and watch their friends and brothers in arms get blown up by IEDs but then they come home and they don't have the support they need. Can't find a job because of the shell shock, can't afford the healthcare to treat the shell shock because of a lack of insurance because of a lack of job because of untreated shell shock.I’m an unprotected vet. I spent most of 80s in the navy playing games with the USSR . Those Bears flying over the flight deck below the bridge remain imbedded in my memory. Fun times.

Standard contract, we all could have known what are benefits were and weren't if we'd looked. No benefits at that time unless you do 20 years or are disabled. I am neither, hence no benefits at all, other than a card that gets me 10% off at Lowe's and Home Depot, no thanks to the military.Wtf? Unprotected? MEANWHILE our fucking senators are dining on lobster dinners and having liaisons with their mistresses and buying them diamond necklaces.
Ok rant over.
DB, you should be eligible for VA healthcare like all of us who were in the service. I was in the Navy Reserves having had to do 2 years active duty. 1967-1969 aboard an LST (USS Tioga County) of all boats---uh, I meant shipsto be assigned to... and I'm eligible, although I don't use it. I have Medicare and use that.
I’m certainly grateful for those small favors. My dad served post Korea and got in on the GI Bill. Those VA benefits are no joke! My wife is hearing impaired and paying for hearing aids is quite painful. My dad gets his hearing aids from the VA and they’re free to him. Another friend of mine (Navy retired) got a kidney & liver transplant at age 76. Taxpayers covered over a million dollars through the VA. He’s over five years in making good on it. VA benefits are nothing to sneeze at!Oh yeah, almost forgot: I also got a VA Home Loan, with zero down payment. Now that was helpful.
States? Some states have very good veterans benefits.
I wonder if maybe the benefits that you earned were different when you were in. I'm positive I was never eligible for VA healthcare. And yes, honorably discharged. In any case it's moot, as I am now on Medicare too.DB, you should be eligible for VA healthcare like all of us who were in the service. Anyone who served active duty with an Honorable Discharge is eligible for VA medical care.I'm positive I was never eligible for VA healthcare
Yes. You are eligible and entitled. I don’t recall the particulars. It isn’t free. Possibly, if you meet certain income requirements? If you're being seen for service connected problems, it's free. If it's not service connected, there's a $15 copay... full stop. no other charges. It isn’t free.
