Rear wheel clicking noise

hey all! I got my wheels powder coated and also new brake shoes for the rear wheel. When installed and spinning the wheel, I hear a clicking noise. It's def coming from the brake drum. I THINK its the blue circled parts of the drum hitting the red circled part of the hub. Anyone ever encounter this? recommended solutions? Brakes are from Mike's

If you want to know for sure, use some Prussian Blue on either the red part or the blue part (not both) and reinstall and give a spin.

If there's any metal to metal contact you'll know when you disassemble again to check for transfer.

We used this all the time when we got brand new injection molds in from the machine shop.

i dont think that part can be pushed in any further. at least not that i am aware of!

ill try testing for a high spot and report back! I am assuming just grind down any high spot?

That would be my guess also. The cam should be just about flush.

You shouldn’t need to grind anything if all original, check your spacers is the correct size /lenght

mikeydeepXS...LEGEND! problem solved. The black plate thingy was misoriented and wasnt all the way in before. problem solved! Thanks everyone for the quick replies!

Also looks like the cam is backwards/180 deg out. See how two opposite edges have a more gradual radius? That's so you don't get "all or nothing" when you apply the brake. Makes it more gradual... or linear if you will.
That gentle radius is what should contact the shoes when you turn it to apply the brakes.

It does look like the arcs are different on the faces of the cam, but are these two arcs highlighted in blue of different geometry?

Disregard. If you flipped it, nothing would change.

Check the outside flat surface at the end of the splined shaft...there should be a little dot offset from the center, and the dot should be on the side closest to the axle (the inside if you will), not away from the axle or on the outside - see pic.

i never took the cam shaft out of the drum and the "dot" is facing away from the axle. do i need to take out and rotate? everything seems to be working as intended

Yes. The cam is ground so that it pushes more on one shoe than the other (don't remember which).
If it's backwards, the brakes will either be weak or grabby on initial application.
