Replacing brass tubes.

Anyone ever replace or attempt to replace the brass tubes on the petcock. I have several sets of non-vac petcocks that sat in old fuel so long the brass deteriorated. I thought I would refurbish these if possible. Seems that the old ones could be drilled out and new ones installed with a tiny smear of epoxy to hold them in place. Maybe they were friction fit? Any with enough tube protruding... slip the back end of correct size drill bit inside and then clamp on with vise grips .... maybe a little heat.
You should be able to find correct size tubing.... brass or plastic... no copper
 
I once Used Loctite and a aluminum part made to fit in a lathe onto the front of the petcock.
Removed the existing functionality and had a petcock in line on the hose
Dont remember what Loctite but I believe there are those for assembling parts
sitting there since late 80 ies
I believe brass and Loctite will sit well
 
I ordered an assortment of small brass tubes on Amazon for $8. An assortment because it appears the older two screw petcocks have a slightly smaller diameter tube. I can get away with a 6mm for the 3 screw units but 5.5mm is closer to the other set. Since I’m doing a refurb I went shopping for kits. Mikes came in around $26 so I checked Yamahaxs650.com. They are normally out of what I need, however this time they had both kits and at less than half of what Mikes wanted. While I was there I perused the other categories since ya never know what you might need. $150 later I placed my order.

Yours look terrible, but often the tube is merely split. If that's the case, they can simply be soldered.

This is a split in a float bowl overflow brass tube. The same split can occur in petcock brass tubes.

Never actually tried it myself. Got the idea from this video:

Replaced the tubes today. As I drilled each one out the ends would come free as they all appeared to be compression fit. Tubes I had were 5.97mm. Tubes that came out were 5.77. I chucked up the replacements in the lathe and shaved them to 5.80. They tapped right down into place and I couldn’t pull them out by hand. Very happy with the results. I have a couple more days to clean and polish before the rebuild kits get here.IMG_8861.jpeg

I did the same to replace a broken over flow float bowl tube. Drilled out the old tube to the size of the closet tube and then epoxied in the new one.
 
There exists math about these things Press fit and Shrink fit
In this case with two unusual material.
A pipe is strong against external pressure ( and internal )
But that external pressure have a corresponding pressure on the other part the petcock
It can crack the petcock if the radial grip is to large .Since it has not cracked now and is not under force it might be good
And last a 100 as the Proverbial 100 years
0.03 Sounds good to me
 
All done. Typical kits had fibre washers for the mounting bolts but none for the drain screw and the spigot washer was too small. I think they turned out OK. One thing I made sure of was the valve lever face was nice and flat.IMG_8870.jpeg
