To make getting at the stuck on gasket easier I laid the bike on it's side
Do I need to do anything special once I'm done replacing the gasket and get it back upright ?
I just want to know after new oil is

back in the crankcase will it be good to go starting it

It's easier to be careful removing the gasket when you can see it properly
So no issues with me finishing up the sump plate job and standing it upright adding oil and moving foreword ?
As long as it's on it's side I'm going to scrub some more with kerosine and a brush so if there are future leaks they will be easier to spot

Okay just a tiny rant about doing these simple jobs
Once I go to put back into place the drain plugs I again cussed my beam torque wrench
You'd think a person should be able to read the torque gauge when installing them while on the lift
Hell no at least with the one I'm using
I have to lay on my back and look up with a trouble light to be barely able to see the torque I'm putting on the plugs
You'd think that they would make a wrench that you could read from both sides of the wrench
There,

rants over time to put my gloves back on and get dirty again

My old boss when I ask him how tight he wants a bolt
tightened to
Would say
Well tighten the SOB up
And don't break it off
I guess we didn’t have a torque wrench in the shop
In the Air Force we used to say "run it down 'till it strips, then back it off a half a turn."

There, View attachment 368995 rants over time to put my gloves back on and get dirty again
You'd think they coulda just put a square on the opposite side too so you could just flip it over.... apparently that's asking too much.

I did not actually crew the "Aardvark", but I was working on the Phase Docks at RAF Upper Heyford, UK from '74-'77. My very first tour after Tech School. Fun times!
Cool!! Heyford was my 2nd tour out of Tech School. Avionics. Was there.... wait for it.... '74 to '77. How cool is that!?!
Good memories of doing spike checks in Phase Dock.
Ya gotta think that in 4 yrs we musta bumped elbows....

Jim, I have been looking to shoot the breeze with you about the good/bad times on active duty for some time, now. PM me (in between rotor rewind jobs!), if you want to.
