routing new stator wires
I have been having a stating issue on my 1980 xs650 special and having been chasing my tail .
I found a triangular filter in the fuel line I inch above carb body. - I had never seen it before because I had never has everything this far apart airbuses etc. I removed and replace fuel line- Also My tci input magnet. orange grey black wire I think metered bad. So I replaced with my back up stator. So with new fuel line with iv bottle and new backup stator with good tci magnet it started and ran for about 3 minutes. I don't thin it would idle tho and there was some backfiring in the beginning too. Also I have yet to use it yet but when I removed gas tank original petcock leaked on on position- this was a new thing as I have had it off before - so I replaced with manual petcock and capped vacuum line although. I have yet to try it - Also thinking maybe it was old filter I put old stator back on so I would not have to route wires - well it would not start again leading me to believe it is the TCI magnet. Anyway now I have to route new stator wires- I have attached image. I removed 1 10mm head bolt- does this guard above wires just slide out or do I have to remove chain - is there an "easy or easier" way to do this. I don't want to ham fist and break something - I taped with rubber mallet and tried to gently pry but it seems like I am missing something. Also was this filter above carb a factory thing- the new petcock has filters in it. Do I have to remove chain? Also is that clutch mechanism supposed to have a ball bearing in it - if so is it 8mm - it may have fallout from all the takin off and on
Thanks Damon
