Grabbed a pretty rotted 79 XS650 from the scrapper the other day. Sold the rolling chassis and got my money back. I have the motor and carbs to rebuild and/or sell. Maybe take it to Barber in the fall. Any thoughts on putting a couple hundred in parts into them and selling for $$?? I have my own vapor blaster so they would be done right and nice. Thx. Mez

Depending on your skills and reputation .. And if the motor can be started after the rebuild.
Or if warranties
I don't know the US situation .. But I would hesitate paying extra for a rebuilt motor .. Unless I know it is a skilled person
There was a saying here in the 70 ies at sales

" The whole world is Replaced " meaning that the internals was Tip -Top

Having been in the last owner segment all my life I would be skeptical and prefer buying the motor unrestored and look it over myself.
Untouched vehicles Not worked on commands higher prices. Threads stripped .. Silicone and others
But I know of people buying complete motors from salvage ( Not XS ) .Getting a couple of months warranties

A mileage number can improve.
