Looking for a SHOW quality tail light assy. for a 1975. It's the round lens. I will pay what it takes to get a perfect or near perfect assembly.
There are aftermarket units that can be called new but I can't deal with the poor quality. They look like everything made in that country...Cheap communist made JUNK.
The spot welds stand out to the point that's all I see. I will NOT put that on my show bike. Id rather play pick-up sticks with my butt cheeks.

If you have a nice tail light. Shoot me a price.

HVC sell re-pops. I cannot attest to quality, but this unit was used on a lot of other bikes. Maybe you will have more luck expanding your searches.

Yes, I have that list too. Still no luck finding a true show quality tail light assy.
What I'm really looking for is a "new old stock"
I may need to contact a Re-chrome company. What ever the cost for them to restore the light to new condition I'll pay it.
The tail light and fender MUST be perfect.
Thank you so much for your reply. I was beginning to think this site was broken.

This is a great site and far more active with members than any other forum I’ve been a part of. The wealth of knowledge collected here on these old bikes is amazing. If you haven’t yet, be sure to peruse the Tech section on this forum. So much info.

I think the lack of response to your inquiry was because it doesn't exist off-the-shelf: not good reproduction or NOS, but specifically a "SHOW" chromed piece. Readers would likely be intimidated to offer possibly unworthy suggestions...

That's exactly what I thought. No one has a perfect one that they would want to let go. I knew this piece was going to be hard to find. I can re-chrome a piece that has no rust pitting. I would like to have a new old stock but if I can't find that I will have a good one re chromed to perfect condition.
So I'm looking for a tail light that can be redone.
I have a budget of around $400.00 to spend on the light assy. If that's not enough I'll spend more.

I'm building a barn find that's been abandoned since 1987. When I say "barn find" I mean it was leaning against the outside back of the barn since 1987.
We had to cut a fairly large Sugar Maple tree out that had grown between the front down tubes. It was up to the axles in the dirt.

The weeds had to be cut back to even get to it. All you could see was the handle bars.
I want it to go from that dead rust colored scrap heap to a blue ribbon winner. That takes a lot of work and a fair amount of money.
I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.
I got the titled frame from Minnesota. 24 hour trip. Drove straight through.
Now I'm sanding the rust off the airbox. what a mess.

I know it won't get you the tail light assembly your looking for, but post a few pictures of what your starting with
We'd like to get a idea of what your starting with as others have posted in their builds / restorations

Day one. She is beautiful!

Looks like quite the project you have in front of you but if you have the time and a place to work on it Go for it !
You might want to wait on buying a new or re chromed tail light for now until you get the bike up and running a dialed in first

Here is day 30 ish. Motor rebuilt. Gauges repainted and odometer rolled back to 11 miles.
Will need to trade you the late model tank for a 1975. That's after it's up and running. Polished the glass rings on the gauges.
Still have the wheels to go and exhaust. Looking for a good set of down tubes too.

Just an FYI, that dash/gauge setup is from a 77 model. The ‘75 is a lot different. ‘76 was different again. Here is what a proper ‘75 dash looks like.

The rust was sanded, polished, painted or replaced.
Front forks rebuilt, polished and clear coated using U-pol system 20 clearcoat #UP2882.
Good stuff. I use it to seal all my polished parts. Stunning results from this clearcoat.

Engine covers are polished. I will clearcoat them before final rollout.

Seat is near perfect. It's a 77 seat. I will be using it until I find a nice 1975.
I'll use what I can until I find what I'm looking for. Carburetors are done too.

All looks good - I got 3 xs650b from 1975 ( 2 are assembled and in starblack, of which one has a brand new gas tank NOS right out of the box ). However none are running the carb set up I see here - they both have individual throttle cables. I even got an extra set for the 2 throttle cable type as I believe that’s the right type. However missing a set like yours for my next ‘77 build :)
