Side Stand Blues

BMW: It's not that we have made a mistake, it's that you do not have the wisdom to understand our engineering greatness.
Rode a CB900F off a LH curve at speed. I had stopped, done some small thing and rode on, forgetting I had put the sidestand down.
very minor issues to bike, was a large grassy hillside.
Ulysses has a large flex area like the XS side stand doesn't "lock til the stand has come up quite a bit.
I had JUST found and repainted a factory fairing for a Yamaha Vision for Allison, parked it in the sunny driveway, (red like this one)

went to get a camera, came out to watch the bike roll forward off the side stand and bust the fairing, F_K me!
Side stand stop got some serious angle grinder therapy.

I keep coming back to look at this bike. I really like the look. Another one on the radar for me.

I could never get over that "backwards wheel offset.
hint: Radian... ;^)

Right after I finished my ‘76 I stopped to see a buddy that was doing a small job at a strip mall. I parked out away from the busy spots because I didn’t want any issues. When I came out bike was on the ground! WTF! A young girl walked over and said she didn’t see the bike and backed into it, pushing it right off the sidestand. My helmet that was hanging on the handlebars saved the bike from major damage but left a nice fat dent in the tank Luckily a PDR guy was able to fix the dent and that was about the extent of things other than a solder joint in the turn signal control that I was able to fix.

If your eyes are offended, what does that say?
It says that you can't read a room, read a persons thoughts... nor their motivation. Look, I know you're just trying to dazzle us with your brilliant mind and vast your knowledge of world history... your version that is.... but read the fucking room dude. Nobody here gives a flyin' fuck about your ability to skirt the rules and make EVERY FUCKING COMMENT a dazzling display of your superior intellect. Comments that, while not quiet political, bump so close up against it that every fuckin' one is a POTENTIAL political firestorm.... always one comment away from "well that went downhill fast."

And while I'm not any better'n you at reading a persons thoughts, I suspect you're well aware of just how far you can go on and on about all things having nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Forced opium addiction... seriously?!? Ya really think that's relavent?

Btw... I also plowed into an Olds with my BSA.... fucked up the Olds... not a scratch on me.... dusted off the ol' beezer and pressed on to work.... all without a helmet. Amazing huh? A shared experience in bullshit. ;)

Speaking of side stands….My vote goes to Harley Davidson for having the best engineered side stands. When they are down and the bike is leaning on it, they lock in place so they can’t accidentally roll forward and fold up! Which happened to me on my Suzuki when I had it parked nose first on the slightest decline of my driveway. Fortunately for me I caught it just as it was beginning to fall.

Agreed, the airheads may be low tech, but they are a low tech tank, built to outlast their owners. Love’m, 😍
I had the coolest centerstand on my old BMW, you simply hopped on your bike, fired it up and rode off, with the centerstand automatically retracting.
And how can you not love that motor with its jugs hanging out in the breeze like an old airplane? To me it’s the coolest motor design ever to grace a motorcycle. 🙂

I honestly never had a problem with mine, you would think the heat coming off those jugs would roast your legs but it doesn’t. Maybe if you had size 12 boots you might be a little cramped?
Size 13. My XS11 roasts my feet. I just made what is to me, an obvious assumption. Yes, I would think…
;)

Mailman, that centerstand you had on your BMW was aftermarket, a Reynolds "Ride-Off" I believe. It was made to do just what you said, "ride" right off of it. The pictured R90/6 for sale in that other thread has one. But personally, I always liked and kept the original. It was designed as a "work" stand. Remove either wheel and the bike automatically tipped onto the other. BMW put a lot of thought into where they mounted it. They also put the side lift handle almost right above it so getting the bike up on the centerstand, even fully loaded, was pretty easy. Also, being so centered like that, you could easily lift the rear of the bike and rotate it around in a circle on the stand, with just one hand.
