I pulled my wheels off yesterday to get them ready to go for powder coat. Visually, they have always appeared in good shape and seemed to ride fine. I rode all last summer on them. but after getting tires removed I found a small bend in the front rim. It almost looks possible that the tire removal is actually what bent it.

I'm wondering what is a good way to try to repair this. I've never worked on rims before, but I'm also on a budget and don't wanna pay someone. The bend is pretty small so I don't really know how big of a deal it is. I don't wanna go at this incorrectly. Any advice to share?

Set the rim on edge (vertical) in a large vice with padded jaws and slowly tighten it. That should push that bent flange back in. I've done it several times successfully on alloy rims, don't see why it wouldn't work for a steel one too.

Agreed. I've had good success using a press to remove bends like that. take your time and it will turn out pretty good. good luck.
