Slipping gear? Maybe bad valve adjustment?

Here’s a pic of the pickups

It is a thing... When you have done it once it is second nature. Search YouTube "Using a timing light" or "using a strobe light to adjust ignition timing".. The Tech section may have details also. I am off to Friday nite date with Mrs.

Alright just got done with a long weekend at work and I’m starting to heat up for this timing job. Any advice and pointers? I have an electric ignition system so it might be a little different… and if timing the bike doesn’t work out should I got back to the valves? Or should I pull the motor next? Sorry for all the questions yall I work a lot during the week and Monday is my only off day so have to make the most of it😅

Ok so the bike was off timing but I got it tuned in. But I still run into the same problem high revs in high gears. I still have torque and power to go faster but the bike is just reving extremely high. I added a picture of the advance if anyone can see anything wrong with it. I see the return spring is pretty beat up but should I go back to valves now that it’s timed?

Yes sorry let me try and describe it for yall. So my bike won’t go past 40mph without me fearing it will rev to high and blow up. I have a pretty big hill here in California where I test to see if the symptoms are still showing. The bike ideals and rides perfect in first gear. As soon as I get up to 10mph In first I shift up to second however the drop in rpm’s is extremely minimal. It becomes very apparent when I shift from second to third. The drop in rpm’s is close to zero. For example let’s say I’m in second and I’m pushing about 3-4k rpm. When I shift into third it stays at 3-4k. And it doesn’t get much better shifting into 4th and 5th

before I touched the valves the bike was perfect except for a little valve chatter. Now it sounds good but runs like dirt😅 I’ve tried multiple valve gaps and ways of adjustment none of which resulted in the problem being fixed. I checked timing today and it was off by quite a sizable amount but after adjusting and dialing in the timing still no success.

It's a perplexing set of circumstances:

1) The issue (lack of power?) presented itself after a valve adjustment,
2) the timing marks are homemade & perhaps of questionable accuracy?,
3) in the timing video, I see a red mark on the flywheel that appears in the neighborhood of correctness (according to homemade marks) and I also see a larger white mark on the flywheel that appears to be flashing ~ 180 degrees off.

I raise these issues as we need to know if the the timing marks are accurate before we can have confidence in any adjustments we might make. From the pics they are curious (to me): the"F" mark and TDC would normally be further apart.

Just guessing at this point, but I'd next be verifying the marks with a degree wheel. You can print one equal to your flywheel size here https://www.blocklayer.com/degree-wheeleng

That’s what I think too maybe my tdc mark is off… I’ll send a video of me riding it real quick but it’s hard to do with one hand and while riding. What does this degree wheel do? And how do you use it? I won’t push it past 40mph but the rpm’s going 40mph in 5th gear are around 4k
