I need to sell my SR500H to make room for the T140 I just bought. Limited space, doncha know.
I've recently rebuilt the forks with new stanchions, YSS emulators and XS650 springs. It has taper roller head bearings, a Kedo steering damper and 11mm m/c so the brakes actually work and it won't shake its head. Currently wearing a newish (2021) chromed tanks and SR400 seat, but original seat and tank included. Jetted for the K&N air filter and stainless Delkevic exhaust.

This bike was imported from South Africa by a PO, I changed the KPH speedo to an MPH one, so the displayed mileage isn't 'real'. Scottoiler also fitted.
Asking £2900. Please DM me if interested.

Ok, all this SR500 talk is pushing my buttons in a BIG way!!! Although I am fairly heavily committed to my XS650 hoard, I really like singles, especially early ones like the SR500. I recently went to see an SR500 package deal and have resisted buying it because of space, time and scope constraints. There are two bare frames, several engines, one rolling chassis, one semi-complete bike and one fully-complete bike plus parts all over the place. The complete and semi-complete bikes have titled frames. The other three are un-titled.

@nighthog, if your asking price is indicative of fair-market value, I may have to reconsider my resistance. Obviously the package I'm looking at doesn't include a clean runner such as yours, the asking price is half of yours.

Ok guys, talk me into it or out of it! What's the sentiment on SR500's anyway?

They are great fun. Super light and if you're not in a tearing hurry to get where you're going, an excellent ride. Very happy at 50-60mph all day, anything over 70 feels like asking a bit too much. They can be a bit 'lively' at the front hence the mods I made to stiffen the soft suspension up a bit and add a damper. Feels great now, completely secure.
I think there's a few of us who have both XSs and SRs. I'm sure someone else will offer their opinion too. Mine is - go for it!

You won't have my help talking you out of buying a SR500. I have had mine from new 1980 and it is probably the last motorcycle I will release my grip on when I get old. I only have 36,000 miles on it and the engine has never been apart. It is a very nice companion to my two XS650s. I have done one day rides of 400 miles and it performed flawlessly. Mostly I use it for local riding.

Buy it, the potential is huge. You may end up with a couple of brilliant complete machines. Sell one and recoup your investment, plus a stack of spares. Oh yes please 🙏

Well, so much for the 650 guys telling me to stick to my 650 guns!!! Not surprised though; my understanding is that the SR500 is a brilliant machine for its vintage and its displacement. Your valued opinions seem to bear that out. My rides are typically short-duration/ short-distance, say max 200 km round trip, mostly on twisty hilly roads where speeds north of 100 kph are not frequent. Sounds like the right sort of bike for that. Maybe I'll see if I can make a deal with the seller.

Ben Bostrom had one custom built (cafe’d) that he used to absolutely thrash on the Mulholland parkway, you couldn’t wipe the smile off his face with a shovel, and that smile said more than words could have.
