Sticky advance rod

Should the advance rod pass all the way through the cam? Mine sticks right at the end (see video below). I can tap it through with a hammer. I did a little work with sandpaper. Should I keep sanding it down until it passes all the way through with mild resistance?

The rod isn't going to pass through the shaft while the alignment pin for the points cam is still in the shaft. Stop, search, read, think about the parts and how they're supposed to work.

Not true...it will pass through with the pins in place.

I used a round file and did some light filing on the inside of the cam and it works now.
