My stop light checker seems to be a different unit than what is on the wiring diagram for the 75/76 model. The diagram has 3 wires coming from the checker: G/W, B, and Y. Mine only has 2: a red wire and a black wire.
The red is tied into the yellow wire feeding the stop light, the black is tied into the black wire, (ground). The checker seems to work (most of the time), and the red light flashes with the wires disconnected, stays on when brake is applied. The wires at the connections over the rear fender appear to have been hacked in the past, judging by the bullet terminals. Is there more that one type of checker box?

I see that it is not an item that anyone cares about, since it can easily be bypassed and the stop light works normally. But I browsed ebay, and this is what I found that matches the wires colors according to the schematic:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3881106350...6101632&segname&recoId=388110635017&recoPos=1

Except that I don't have the matching plug connector and I don't have a green/white wire. Any ideas if this is what I am supposed to have?
My current "stoplight checker" is an unlabeled small black box with one tiny red LED that lights up when the brakes are applied, and sometimes it works and sometime does not, whether or not the brake light comes on:

That's just it; there is no connector. That box is spliced in to bullet connectors under that rubber black booth, its red wire is joined with the yellow brake light wire, and its black wire is joined to the black ground wire to the tail light.

Under that black rubber there should b connectors....bullet yes pics as asked

Look for an identifying no on that black box, then do an internet search

If you don't want to post pics I can't help any more

You just may not be looking in the right place for the plug. Normally, the harness plug is on top of the battery box, next to the regulator plug, and the unit hangs off the back of the battery box, between it and the inner fender ......

In my pic above, the plug is the one with the orange jumper wire installed. I removed my checker because when I switched to an LED tail light bulb, the dash warning light was on all the time. Apparently the checker thought my brake light was burned out because the LED uses so little voltage, lol. I mounted a voltmeter in the dash, in that brake warning light lens, and needed to install the jumper wire to provide a full time ground to it

That is not factory. No idea what it is for.

Post pics of your connector coming from the loom with wire colours
You are right; I call it" mysterious box" because it has no numbers, brand, or description on it. All the bullet connectors under the rubber boot are connected properly, and everything works. I removed the box, and everything works as described. I found the actual Stop Light Checker under the right side cover just above the Safety Relay. Thank You for the tips.

Well, I found the little bugger under the right side cover; I removed the "mysterious box" and everything works as described in the owner's manual. Thank You for the photos, but my '76 is arranged a little different. I also found an LED tail/brake light bulb (installed by previous owners) that was making very little light. I replaced it with a conventional 1157 bulb, and all is working properly now.
