I don't know, maybe this belongs in the A.I. thread I started, but weird things have been happening more and more lately……😳

There have always been these weird connections on the internet, such as you might be searching for an item online and then the next time you go on Amazon, Viola! There it is!

But lately it has been happening everywhere I go online, everything seems connected. For example, I love watching restoration videos on YouTube, on practically anything, guns , shoes , furniture….you name it. So I was watching , what seemed to me to be pretty obscure stuff, a guy was restoring a very old, damaged, Stradivarius violin. Call me weird, but I find the detailed craftsmanship involved fascinating.
Ok….now for the strange connection, the next day I was reading my online news feed and up popped an article from Violin.com about a rare Stradivarius violin. Violin.com ? 🤔 In my news feed? Really? I’ve never been on that website. Never even heard of it.

This sort of thing has been happening with increased frequency over a whole broad range of websites and topics. I have begun to think that
“ smart computers / A.I. “ are trying to predict my interests and present me with things I will look at or buy. I turned off SIRI on my phone because the damn thing was listening to conversations between me and my wife, even though the phone was shut off! Kids may be comfortable with all this stuff, but I find it unsettling. 😳

That’s exactly the same as my own behavior. I’d rather watch someone restore an anvil than some stupid sitcom.
As far as the AI, just go with it. We used to have to look at commercials for feminine hygiene. Thankfully, those days are gone.

Here’s an instructional video on how to cook a leg of lamb. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

my doctors office phoned with an appointment, after I hung up my calendar popped up with a reminder, I tilted my phone over to the wife and her jaw dropped, I said “just Siri watching out for me”
I get into the car late afternoon, my phone puts up directions to the gym. I guess that’s better than directing me to the bar.

I'm thinking about this. My parents are both 90 years old. They retired to Florida 30 years ago. They have a computer and wifi. They have no clue how to use it or what it's for. They have a flip phone. They might turn it on to make a call, then turn it back off. My dad spends hours looking at TV. They live in a gated retirement community. They live in isolation. They don't know how to get information. They have become irrelevant. Nothing and no one is tracking them as they've been left behind. It makes me sad and I'll do my best to avoid that. I'll start by moving back closer to my kids.

I think you're just experiencing what Miller describes as the "great cosmic consciousness". Everything I ever needed to know I learned from "Repo Man."
