The mini yamaha

Nice, what's the deal with your fork tubes? Looks like new seals and a cleanup are in order...
I bought those forks only for the lower fork lugs, damper rod and caps. The tubes, springs and seals are getting replaced with a racing bros lowering tube kit. The grom forks are about 3" too long stock. The kit replaces the upper and slider with shorter pieces to keep stock travel and be 3" shorter. But you need the fork cap, lugs and damper rod from the originals, or spend close to $1k for aftermarket. The dirty stock forks set me back $200.

Got the wheels back from powder. Went with a red that's a close match to the lucky strike decals that'll be going on. I'm going to mount mitas mc35 tires and double check chain clearance before finishing work on the frame. Then the frame will go in to be powdered silver.

Not much of an update, but lowering kit is on its way for the forks. I need enough drop that I went with the racingbros lowering tube kit. It gives 3" of drop with no loss of travel, or 4" drop with 1" less travel. To get ready I disassembled the grom forks. With patience and a heat gun they only took a little cursing. It looks like honda used about 100× more locktite than needed on the lower lugs.
I also decided how to deal with the need for a rear master cylinder and shift linkage. I'll make ad adapter plate to use cbr954 rear sets. The shifter, rear master, brake pedal and brake light switch are all engineered and mounted to the rear sets. Meaning I just need adapters with 2 holes and 2 threaded holes, and maybe a little offset.

Who do you use for your powder coating? I’ve been using Powder Rangers in Edmond but I was disappointed in their last job

The shop I used a few years ago closed, so this time I went to Good Vibes Customs on melrose lane near council in OKC. It's probably a mile or so north of the outlet mall on Reno. I'll be taking the frame in soon.

Should be a rocket or a pretty good wheelie machine
The new swingarm is 2.5" longer than stock. That should help it be more stable and reduce wheelies a little. If I worked out the gearing right it should be able to go around 90mph, which should let it cruise comfortably at 65, which will limit the torque in 1st and 2nd too.

Having just seen this thread (and a whole heap of others too) - the ingenuity, skills and facilities you guys have to hand is simply staggering.

I'm not (nor ever have been) the jealous type - but I am deeply envious!

Right - I'm off to carve myself a new crankshaft out of billet steel using a hacksaw, bastard file and a piece of emery cloth. Should be sorted sometime this millennium.

Lol, space, time and money. I got lucky on a few of my big tools, lathe $500, mill free, air compressor on clearance etc. There is a lot I couldn't do in a reasonable time frame without them. But some of it is like mrpete222 on youtube says, "with a few thousand dollars of tools, a few days and material you too can make your own $20 widget."

So very true! 😁

Front motor mount about 80% redone. Once I got the grom rear wheel in I realized I had to scoot the motor over about 1/4" for chain clearance to the tire. So the front mount I had wouldn't work, luckily the rear mount I just had to unbolt and flip around.

The redone mount will give me a bit more room for running the exhaust.

Also after welding it all up I really think a water cooled tig torch is vastly superior to air cooled. The amazon chiller is working great.

Ain't that the truth ... and don't forget the development of the skills and ingenuity to make all that stuff work for you. In my case, the shop and its contents represents a lifetime of accumulation of tooling and tinkering, without ever having worked professionally as a fabricator, or machinist, or mechanic etc.
