The Norda

The clutch being fairly large and inline with the output makes the triumph and norton engines look closer to the swingarm than they really are.

Oh definitely. I've already angered one old guy on a different forum by daring to put a japanese engine in a featherbed. And plenty were angered on facebook by the head steady.

I'm leaning more towards 4-1 or 4-4. 4-1 pipes just sound great. But the 4-4 has such a strong honda heritage.
I ran my 750 F1 on a commando pea shooter with the original 4-1 down pipes it really did rip
I had K2 that I made a couple of 2-1 collectors for each side
That also sounded brilliant on two short meggas

Well I just sent Buchanan spokes $850 for rims and spokes for this bike. Now I get to wait for the ship notice. I'm going to run Shinko 712 tires to start with, 3.5x18 rear and 3.0x18 front. It's kinda slim pickings for a narrow 18" rear tire. I'm also going to use an outex tubeless kit on it. I used one on my drz and had no problems in close to 10k miles.

Just my thought here.... what about running the 4-1 with a Cherry Bomb? Or might that sound terrible?
I just don't think it would look right. Same with running a modern shaped muffler. I'm really leaning towards using reverse megaphone muffler/s. I'll make some posterboard mockups to really get an idea of looks.

While I wait on rims and spokes I started on the intake. The air filter is from walker engineering for a micro sprint with r6 engine. The stack length and radius are copied from the stock airbox rubbers. The end plate will have a mount from the frame to support the whole assembly.

This kind of showshow I went from 2.5" .5" wall tube to stacks. Started by facing one end, then turn the id to 1.685, then a step .385 deep 1.843 diameter. Turn the OD to 2.35, then cut 1.943 to 1.6 back. Flip the part and face down to 2.8 long. Match the last ofthe ID and OD to what has been cut. Finally use a 3/8 radius cutter to finish the id, a 1/16 radius to take awaythe sharp edge and finally a large groove tool with radius to thin down the end.

It'll be interesting to see it off the bench with the tank on. I can already tell I'm going to swap the rear fender to something less ungainly.View attachment 354263
Bikes look very different when they are on the deck
I remember a few years ago building an fj1200 chop I'd used an off the shelf rigid frame
It was a big mistake
The bike was almost finished but not painted thankfully when I took it off the ramp to look at it properly and hated it
It looked like it'd run into a wall,I cut 4" out the hard tail and raked the frame/extended the forks before I was happy with it
I'd definitely junk the rear mudguard if I were you 👍👍👍👍
