The Norda

I certainly don't want to be an armchair critic and I hear that you are thinking all these considerations through. I agree that it can be a challenge to find a good location for a remote filter. Carry on, enjoying watching your build!
The smaller filter is a better fit. If I remake the adapter I can get it 1/2" closer to the engine and maybe 1/2" higher.

The side view of the smaller filter looks great. Looking back at it now, I think the front view of the larger filter exaggerates the extent to which it appears to hang below the frame rails. That said and with the proximity of the filter directly behind the front wheel, it would take a heck of an obstacle to put the filter in danger. No curb-hopping then!

IF you remake the adapter, and you don't plan to reuse the first one you have here, I'd be interested to see a sectioned side view of it, the way the oil flows thru it.

Oil flow is pretty simple, theres pictures showing the inlet port further up the thread, so that feeds oil into the filter, it flows throughthe filter then up the center. The green bolt that holds it together has holes in it to allow oil in, to flow back into the motor.

Working on a seat shape. I looked at a lot of pictures and the seatshape varies wildly. Some pretty square, some very tapered and pointed, others more rounded. Plus length and use of a fender is a variable. Some just have a flat seat with no hump.

This is the shape I'm looking at right now. I wanted to follow the tank shape a bit.

Last one I made, I cheated and cut it out of an old gas tank.

If I had a tank that was close to the right shape I'd consider it. It would be easier to do a little reshaping compared to forming it all. I'm sure with experience it gets easier, but it'll be a long time before I'm close to someone like Ron Covell.

Simple, albeit innocent question... why isn't "The Norda" on a site like SOHC/4, rather than XS650.com?
It is on SOHC4, but it never gets much engagement from members there. The honda 4 people on forums and facebook definitely act like gatekeepers and get offended when you ask anything that goes against the norm on basics. Ask about wossner pistons,"why would anyone run anything other than wiseco!" Ask about an ignition,"why would anyone run anything other than dyna or stock points!" And in depth engine questions tend to get answered with, "just call cyclex, they know all and are the only authorized purveyors of info."

Same reasons we also post about making our own Sauerkraut or things like that.

Because we dig it!

I'm interested in the metalwork and machining, no matter what kinda bike it is.

Got it! Thanks for the thoughtful answer, please keep posting... it's interesting and the bike will be unique.

Edit: Quote: (need to figure out an easier way to do this)

Too far away to be a good deal. Almost 4hrs each way according to google maps. It would need to be extremely rare or an extremely good deal to go that far.

Unless it's a pre CB750E-1007414 VIN, one with the earlier sandcast cases. Looks no better. Is no different. Rides no better. Isn't particularly rare (a bit under 2% of production, 7414 units). Just a massive$$ premium to be in the 'Sandcast Club'

Half the "sandcast" bikes don't even have the original sandcast cases. They got replaced by a dealer due to chain breaks. The engine I'm using is a 74, definitely not sandcast and I only paid $200 for the entire cb750.
