The Patience build.

I knew I was moving too fast. I put the pistons in the wrong side last night so I pulled them out of the jugs and switched them. Somewhere along the line my oil ring got a little off on #1 and I buggered my ring. Got a set ordered and two new circlips. Looked at my head and noticed one spring upside down. Dammit! I grabbed the compressor, pulled the keepers, flipped the spring and when I squeezes it back down, BWANG f’ing tool slips off. I recover the spring and I heard the cap hit but didn’t see where it went. I had to find it or I was going to be adding on to my order. Found it under my jack! Back to other items at hand until my next errant parts shipment comes in. Might just paint the outside of the house as that’s on the “to do” list while I’m here. I might just need to step back and take a breath.

Couldn’t help it, I had to get something productive done. I installed the front caliper and instruments. I thought I did a good job of labeling inside the headlamp bucket but obviously not so good. Always look forward to the headlamp bucket….. 81BBBB7D-E18B-4775-87FB-EC0FC2FE687D.jpeg6D7146AA-952A-4DF5-8247-66AB2EEC1A33.jpeg
I looked at the Athena base gasket thickness vs the One from Cruznimage and could see no visible difference. I didn’t measure thickness but I did notice the Athena was more rigid feeling. I don’t know if that would make a difference.EC79D328-2235-467E-ABD2-5997DB616596.jpeg

That could just be carbon. Did you check that valve to see if it's bent? Chuck it up in a cordless drill and spin it. It's easy to see if it's bent, it will wobble as it spins. Your low compression in that cylinder could have just been the stuck rings.

House is prepped and repaired for painting lol. I took a minute this morning to clean and rebuild the petcocks. I had looked into the tank and where there was still vinegar it was rust free! Of course I got excited and I failed to take pics before I filled it and no pics of the petcock process either, but I guess sometimes when I think of taking a pic I don’t necessarily want to handle my phone. 284675FC-7206-4CF9-9611-16EC52D7A9EC.jpeg7F4E3922-A8D2-452B-B973-E4AF4C601275.jpeg9294F709-710D-41CC-9D56-8A463ECB8025.jpeg

I was so freakin burned out today, going from 50’s to 90’s finally caught up to me. I did get my battery today. I knew I had ordered something else but couldn’t remember what it was. Saw the box sitting there and had an “oh yeah” moment.2C081B3A-7E50-4CF3-9A39-58C04C37FC6F.jpeg
I did however get out to the shop for a minute to step back and see what I’m going to have here. I absolutely love this color scheme.5AB405FD-1137-4CB6-BFD8-F09B14171448.jpeg

TT those are Shinko’s. This will be the 5th bike I’ve put them on and I really like the way they handle not to mention the price. BTW I need new rubbers for the rear turn signals. Where is the best place to pick those up?

Got back into it today after taking care of a favor for sis and hub. It actually went pretty smooth. I’m not convinced the gaskets from Cruznimage are any better than the Athena but I guess time will tell and it may well be a situation where that’s what we can get. Pops was able to find his air hammer for me and I used it to peen the rivet and he also got to work on the Carbs. There is one screw on a butterfly that has to come out that has a reamed out head so drilling that out is a priority tomorrow as the engine will be going back in very soon. I got to looking at the old cam chain guide and it appears the chain was running across it at an angle. It pretty much wore the lower corner of the guide off and was crossed over towards the top.6E555F11-0AF7-45B9-A758-94008092589A.jpeg
I’m ready to set the valves, check the point gap and drop the engine back in.

I was looking at that guide and it’s hard to see in the pic but it literally was worn corner to corner across. I checked the new one going in to see if there was enough slop in the bolts to get it that crooked and there’s not. Im figuring the cam sprocket was not centered during the last assembly.

It seems to be pretty common for those front guides to get mounted crooked. You want to carefully measure side to side, both on the top and the bottom, when installing the new guide to ensure you get it in there straight ......

I was determined today to get the engine in and it went splendidly. I slid the engine into the frame off my bike jack then strapped it to the engine hoist and was able to float it right into position. The bolts went in so easily I had to look and see if I was even in the hole lol. Once that was done I set out to clean up the exhaust as it was, well as cruddy as the rest of the bike had been.27A95499-FFF5-42D1-A1A2-AA0C4AC89B30.jpegE8C25E98-5190-40C4-8D08-CAFF06B31140.jpeg

On a side note I feel I’m not getting the Tach gear back in properly. Is this something I should have done with the cover off or is there a trick?A2FD46B4-097B-4E53-AC74-19644DE838AF.jpeg
Next up is everyone’s fav. The Headlight bucket!,,,,85C56DEF-5BB5-499F-9951-0026BA457D0E.jpeg

There's a small shim washer goes on the bottom of it. Don't rightly see how you can guarantee it's on the shaft without pulling the cover. :umm:

I use a little gorilla tape and tape the multi pin connectors to the inside. Keeps things organized and easy to put the headlight back in.

Well I guess it’s coming back off what thickness is it I doubt it’s still in there.
