They! followed me home, I swear.

Wow! You are really blazing along on this! I’ve never seen anyone repair a flasher unit before, that’s pretty cool! Every thing looks great! Nice new tag too! 😉

I’m not sure I’ve seen one apart before and all my other bikes had those square ones that are easily replaceable.

I couldn’t seem to find one for this bike that was tested and worked so I figured I’d at least try to pull it apart and figure it out.

It has a very specific holder and the ground is soldered to the frame, something I had never seen before either.

Well it does run…

Need to set up the carbs still about double check timing with a light.

Might also switch to ATF in the gear box to soften up the crank seal. Not sure if the excess smoke is from all the prep 2 stroke slathered in the top end during the build or a seal leak. I’ll find out soon haha.

Wow, you got that going in record time! It looks great! 😍 Does it have oil injection ? My old RD350 used to smoke like a dumpster fire all the time. 😆

Yes it does, and there is a set up procedure that has you align the stamped lines on your lever to the stamp on the case (my lever has 4 lines on it haha. Soo wild guess as to which one is correct.

I also put a little oil in the tank with the gas after cleaning it.

The priming procedure for the oil pump only primes the lines up to the pump and not from the pump to the heads so I wanted to make sure it would have oil on first running it.

Didn’t have any more time today to play with it. I’ll think k it through and dive back into it mid week.

Does C.A.R.B. know you have that thing? I'm pretty sure that's a mandatory prison sentence for that. Cool bike, BTW.

So after a few start ups, checking the timing and some decent revs we have a lot less smoke. It seems I was clearing out all the extra 2 stroke oil in the barrels on first start up so that’s a positive. I was not looking forward to rebuilding the crank.

Took it for a 20 mile shake down and it ran great but there were a few things I noticed.

For seal leak a lot haha so gotta change those. I have them, just need to install em.

And there is a little tick noise I am hearing under certain conditions. If you listen closely you may be able to pick it up. Kinda sounds like a ping but it’s not consistent enough. It almost has the consistency off water dripping from the faucet and kind of comes and goes.

It may be something crackling in the left exhaust although I’m not sure. More investigation is needed.

Trying to keep the revs down under 5k for the first few hundred miles. Been a while since I’ve broken in a cast 2stroke cylinder.

I installed cylinder head temp gauges on both heads and while it may be too late to notice a real problem by the time the heads change temps drastically I did get good consistent temp reading around 250-275f with 10 or so degrees between sides so that was nice to see.

I love it! Boy did that bring back some memories for me! It looks great. 😃

Hopefully good ones!!

Try to get some more footage once broken in. I’d really like to see 6th gear at 8k.

I do plan on a restoration sometime soon and may opt for some chambers as my exhaust, while solid, needs new chrome and I can’t seem to find anywhere the re chromes exhausts.

Yes, good memories of my old RD350! 😉

I was trying to make out what that LED panel was on your handlebars……a voltmeter perhaps?

Cylinder head temp.

Pretty nice for 20bucks.

Has 2 sensors that you can switch between so you can see temps on both cylinders. You can also set a warning so it flashes when either cylinder passes a certain temp you set.

Just watched the YouTube clip.
I've got to admit to being more than a little jealous.
Takes me back to a much simpler time.
The daft thing is that when we had beautiful simple bikes like that, we couldn't wait to sell them on and move onto something much bigger.

Why it all whet and got so complicated, I’m not sure. Try buying a truck these days haha might as well be a spacecraft.

I’m not sure I’d like to ride this thing cross county but anything short of touring would be fine though.

I got'a ask. Will it loft the front wheel in first gear?

My gut tells we it certainly will… didn’t put much juice to the throttle on the first ride. Gonna try and do my best to break it in properly.

My rd200 will lift the front wheel and this bike is only about 10lbs heavier almost double the power and triple the torque.
