Hi Guys Im kinda thinking of letting someone else enjoy my matching numbers 72 XS650. I have owned it for 15 years or so. It has gone through a complete rebuild with some interesting features. Lots of stuff to list so if you're interested PM me and we can talk. Might be hard to let go. Im thinking around $7500 and you might have to twist my arm. One of the items on this bike is the Vape ignition system.
So a little history. I picked up two of these along with a bunch of parts in Minnesota 70 miles from home in a snow blizzard and almost didn't make it back home. Both engines had stuck cranks which turned out to be the weights they used in the flywheels Those weights tend to loosen and if bad enough will lock the rod up quick. I picked the best of everything sitting there. I decided to use a 447 crank which does not have the weights. That crank was sent to Falicon. I supplied them with new XS2 rods and new bearings They balanced the crank and welded the pins. I used their adjustable 447 cam sprocket and pressed on mount on my original XS2 cam to match the 447 crank. The number of teeth are different on the crank and cam for the 447 engine. The idea was to keep the characteristics of the 72 engine and has worked out quite well. I used 2nd over pistons and rings and had a friend regrind the valve seats and valves. He works on Vincent's and held the speed record for a bit on the salt flats. Great machinist. I used two PVC valves connected to the engine breather which are tucked nicely behind the rear frame backbone of the frame. There are probably only 6,000 miles since the rebuild. Not bad considering I have 10 other bikes I ride. I was able to pick up a NEW NOS speedo and tack a while back and they show 2500 miles now. The carbs were also NOS.I installed a Vape system this spring along with new tires and the bike runs great with this addition. With the new Vape I can kick start it with ease and prefer to start it this way now. The paint was done by PaintWorks who has done several of me Z1900 bikes. At that time I decided to have him seal the tank with POR15 which has held up extremely well. The frame and parts were powder coated. I decided to use an 80% gloss which I think looks great. I had the rims, fenders, and a bunch of other stuff chrome plated. I polished all the other aluminum covers and bits.I believe the total was around $1200 or so. I would hate to see the cost nowadays. The header pipes are stock and were re- chromed, the mufflers are from Mikes XS. The seat pan was powder coated with new foam and cover installed. If your a true XS2 fan you will notice that the front turn signals have been moved from the fork tube to the headlight shell. I like it that way. The cam chain adjuster has been upgraded to type E
