Hi

I’m changing the timing chain on my XS1 and after some advice on how you all fit the connecting link

Do you use a special riveting tool or just peen the ends over using a hammer?

I have a riveting tool. I’ve also done it with an anvil and ball peen hammer.

Which is which?

I have the cheaper MikesXS tool (well, it was cheap when I bought it, lol) but have Motion Pro replacement rivet tips for it. They work really well. That's all you need, get a cheap tool (about $20 on eBay) then get the replacement Motion Pro rivet pin (about $5). I use the tool then finish the link off with the ball peen hammer .....

.....and a little tip - using a small sharp chisel, tap a slight "X" cut into the head of each link pin .....

This will help hold the rivet pin centered on the link pin so it doesn't slide off to the side as you tighten the rivet tool down.
