I bought some used tires for my beetle. They’d been sitting around for a while and the sidewalls had a good layer of brownish grunge on them. I tried several applications of different tire / wheel cleaner but they just didn’t turn out to be the black colour I was looking for. While painting the inside of the rims today, while prepping for paint, I happened to hit the dirty rubber with a cloth that had alcohol on it. Amazing but the brown junk came off too easily. Here’s a few pics. The two before pictures were after my failed attempts with tire cleaner. New discovery?
