Evening all, I've been instructed to install TM series 32mm slider carbs to my XS. After many many pounds trying to get the original butterfly buggers to jet properly I'm resorting to changing them all together. Does anyone have any tips for the install/ know a good place to purchase them from.

Cheers

I do not agree with your instructor.
You will be basically on your own getting baseline jetting and tuning for TM's on this forum.

Before splashing out are you sure the carbs are the problem?

If so page 1 and 3 for XS carb options including TM.

For an off the shelf replacement a set of VM34 is preferable. Lots of info on here about them.
Some vendors can supply them set up ready to run and will only require fine tuning. Can be used for race bikes as well.

Another alternative that requires more work from you and my favourite for a road bike are CVK carbs of a GPZ 500 (EX500).
There is a lot of info on here about the swap.

Another alternative is Mikuni RS carbs again not much info on here. Topham in Europe also sell a sell bolt on kit for the XS.
also make a set of 36mm

I have tried to deal with Allens Performance and found them less than helpful.

I have bought from Mikuni in oz , 650 Central and Garry Hoos ( business sold not sure if still selling carbs) and would recommend all of them.
650 Central if still open will give old fashioned great service.

Another vote for CVK 34 carbs from an ER5/GPZ500. The other day there was a set on eBay UK at a fairly low price. They're usually >£100 on eBay UK. There was a set less than that, they may still be there. I have documented my progress with a set of ER5 carbs on the later pages of the thread linked above. The only thing I had an issue with was extracting one of the pilot screws. Watch out for that if you buy a set off eBay. I expect it's a common issue.

I too wouldn't recommend Allens, they're quite difficult to deal with and I find their website pretty hopeless. I haven't found anyone reliable in the UK for Mikuni stuff. I have found Mikuni OZ to be OK.

I asked Gary Hoos a few weeks ago, he told me he doesn't deal will overseas customers any more.

Try Smedspeed in Kingsteington, Devon. Rick sorted me out with TM32 carbs after I lost patience with the BS34's. Also a new electronic ignition, cartridge oil filter conversion & a few other bits. One man band working out of his sheds but he builds XS flat track ravcer so knows a bit. He has a website.

I talked to him a while back about an extended sump where the starter motor resides, I thought it was a great idea as the starter motor has never really had any practical application on my bike but, he got very busy and didn’t get back to me I’m still interested.
