I installed mikes Heiden rebuild kit on my 1981 650 special (5k) orig. miles.
Mikes xs pods, and I drilled the back of the original pipes, 3 1/8" hole saw,
And with a tapered reamer I reamed the 3/4" center pipe back about 4"
The bike starts 1st kick all the time runs perfect through out all gears and rpms
The problem is that the plugs are whistle clean.
Did like the directions said all went well.
I just don't want to burn it up
Any input would be helpful
I live on Long Island basically at sea level
Thanks Neil

Likely you're running a bit lean with what sounds like you've essentially got open pipes. Are you getting any popping/backfiring?

I kind of went through this same thing a little while back...I only put a 1/2" hole straight back in the center pipe of my stock exhaust....the sound is pretty awesome, and a little more pep it feels like. But I too was worried about running too lean. So far, so good...Been doing some plug chops and it's definitely leaner than it was, but I was running a bit rich prior so it's kind of evened out...however, I'm going to mess with some jets to make sure.

With your mod, however, I bet you're a little leaner than you want to be...might need to go up a size or two on the main jet, and pilot if you're mix screws are way out.

I am going to drop em and see what I put in size wise
I hear the Canadian needles are better ?
I'll get on it in a few days
Work is getting in the way
