What is the average time required to rebuild the topend of a Yamaha xs1b? I will be doing everything necessary to bring it back to like new condition. I know the time can vary widely depending on a ton of variables. Maybe I should have just asked, how big of a job is it? Thanks

You have all the things you need?? And you’ve done it before, pull the motor after breakfast and have it back in before dinner.

Realistically, a weekend should do it, even if it’s a first time, granted the top end just needs a hone and some rings (that you have) but you won’t know until you pull it apart.

If you gotta order parts once you get it apart/ or need machine work for new pistons it could be a month or so of down time. Relatively the same amount of physical work though. Just wait time increases.

I feel there is a difference in the Enthusiast way to do it and a shop repair.
If the engine is out -- there are other updates /Service performed
That depends on future plan and history
And what shop and tools you have .
Frame perhaps cleaned and get some paint
Carburetors serviced ? polished
Parts inspected and measured .New cam bearings .. Measurements... Cylinder bore perhaps .. New
CAM chain ?? Guides ? Springs ?
Con rod small end play evaluated.
Always more than what gave cause for the job and engine out.

Thinking it over perhaps take parts to someone else for a second opinion.

From this viewpoint it is more or less impossible to say before.
Assembling I work slowly trying to get it right the first time and not damaging anything.

As Mr WideAWAKE -- but you won’t know until you pull it apart.
