I recently had to replace my pistons and rings because of a hole in one of them. Prior to replacing them the bike idled and ran. Obviously it was blowing oil everywhere and would backfire, just a general rough running engine.

However, my issue now is the bike won’t idle for more than about a minute with choke on. Won’t run at all with choke off, and during that minute or so any throttle kills it instantly. I’m thinking it’s a pilot circuit issue, maybe too rich of a mixture now? I haven’t opened the carb to see what size pilot jet I have yet either. I am running a single vm34 as well.

Just running some ideas through my head before I start to tackle this and would appreciate anyone’s input or if this sounds like a similar issue you’ve had.

Did you just throw in a new piston and rings. Did you measure clearance at all, hone the cylinder?. Anyway might want to start with a good ultrasonic cleaning of the carbs. Set them to factory specs and go from there.
