I have a 1973 tank that is ready to install the Cap, latch and lock assy. Does anyone have a picture of the latch install. The cap is no problem. Just wanted a little more info before I install everything. First time doing a 73 tank. The one that came with the bike only had the cap.

Also, the emblems need a little bending to match the tank. Do I need to use a little heat, or can I just bend them with my hands? I will be using 3M Auto tape to install the emblems.

Thanks.
Bill

I’m not sure if it’s exactly like on the 74-75 models, this is a ‘75 which have the key/latch as a separate part from the cap
When key is turned it pushes the latch forward so it can disengage - couldn’t upload video

The emblems bend pretty easily without heat.

The latch spring can be installed with the spring backwards, which is wrong. The little bail at the bottom of the spring should point toward the rear of the tank.

Getting the hinge through the latch can be difficult. Put a drill bit halfway through the off-side (which is the left), then push the hinge in from the right-hand side and push the drill bit out. In other words, you want to work both sides at the same time.

Prongs up, and to the rear of the little ears as shown in Niel's pics -- look at the full scale pics. The little bail at the bottom of the spring should point toward the rear of the tank. There will be a little tension on the bail as you insert the hinge pin. Getting the hinge pin through the latch can be difficult. Put a drill bit halfway through the off-side (which is the left), then push the hinge pin in from the right-hand side and push the drill bit out. In other words, you want to work both sides at the same time.

I will try that. Thanks.
