TX650 Hanging Idle

Haven't sorted mine yet. Once engine has warmed up after a few miles the idle stays up at 2000-2500, and sometimes drops very slowly. Other times I pull up and it drops down to 1000 but then after maybe 10-20 secs at 1000 it begins creeping back up to 2000-2500. Has to be an air leak I'm told. So have ordered new inlet boots and gaskets, but not con inced this will sort it.

Ok guys, I think I have a problem with the inlet boots I ordered for my carbs. They were supposed to be for the TX650 and for Mikuni BS38 carbs, but what has arrived are different from the boots fitted to my TX motor.

The new boots have a part no. on them which is 447-13555-01. They have the 5° 'kick' built into the boot, which I think must be 447 motor specific. Am I correct? The reason I ask is that my TX boots don't have the 5° kick in them, the gasket face is parallel to the round face that faces the carb.

So, can anyone confirm for absolute certainty that a 73 TX barrel uses a different boot than a 447 motor, assuming both have a BS38 carb?

The boots I've taken off my 73 motor are probably new replacements, fitted by whomever did the original resto on the bike, so I'm not sure if they are the correct boots or not, hence my question. The boots that were fitted on my TX look in very good shape, rubber-wise, but are a slightly easier fit onto the carb spigot than the 447 numbered boots that have arrived. Not sure if this would cause an air leak issue, as they aren't a sloppy fit, but not a hard push on tight fit. Problem is, I can't find anywhere who sells TX 'parallel' boots. Pics show:
1. Original boot
2. New boot
3. Orig and new boot
4. Ditto 3
5. New boot

70-73 boots are parallel. 447 on your new boots make them definitely for 74 on.
The fit of the carb to the boot is the same, where the problem comes in is the carb to air box connection.
I think there is a place in Germany that sells 256 intake boots or check E-Bay.

OK, I’ve possibly solved my hanging idle issue! I cannot for sure say what exactly the issue was but I swapped out the carbs and the intake gaskets as well as going over the boots very carefully looking for any issues there. They were nice and pliable with no cracks. I I made sure the clamps were on nice and straight and were tightened down properly. I let it idle for a good half hour with no issues other than adjusting the idle as it warmed. Took her for about a 2-3 mile run at 50+ and pulled in with no revs or high idle. Hopefully it’s resolved.
