hello I have been looking around at posts and info on the web but I've stumbled upon a rabbit hole..... instead of buying the big bore 750 kit, could I take a tx750 jug, remove the sleeves and bore out the xs650 jug to accept it, I don't have the sleeve dimensions to say yes or no but if there is enough meat on the jug of the xs650 it would fit. but then I'm curious about sleeve length would it bolt in height wise or would there have to be come crank casing machining as well. idk I know everyone is probably going to say just buy the kit but the challenge and price is one of those things that intrigues me to basically take parts and pieces and machine them in to fit and work. I work part time at a performance engine shop but again I don't have the od and length of the tx sleeve to say yes or no. any info helps thank you

LA Sleeve ..? I've done a few 750 sleeve kits... doesn't take much heat... old 650 sleeve falls out... a good machine shop can punch the cylinders... heat. ... Insert 750 sleeves... then bore and deck.... I prefer this kit as opposed to the big bore cylinders offered.... they look bloated and hurts the visual lines... look .. of the Xs 650 engine... 😎

im not sure what you mean by la sleeve, but im looking at a used tx750 jug for 20$ on eBay, if I heated the tx removed the sleeve, would there be enough room in the XS to machine it, like the tx sleeve upper OD vs the bolt pattern on the XS. I know if I bought a used jug im boring it out for new pistons so that doesn't bother me, main question is is over all sleeve length vs room. thank you for the info!

Tx and Xs are the same engines... The early year Xs.. are different... what year is the bike you plan on installing the cylinders.. ? you can use the Tx cylinders.... Tx was used for model year 73' before and after they used Xs... Why Tx for 73' > they did it with the Tx750 with the fabled oil problems.... 😎

A TX750 was an unloved model that had some QC problems and was dropped by Yamaha after a few years.
The TX moniker had such bad MOJO (because of the TX750) Yamaha went back to XS 650. This makes the rare 73-74 TX 650's incredibly valuable! 🤣

The cheap way in is the expensive way out. I'd suggest building your engine with parts from credible suppliers (like LA Sleeve). Unless you like doing things twice.
