Apollo 11 went to manual control because a boulder field wound up being in the automatic's landing field.... nothing to do with a failure. The auto system was functioning properly. In 1969 we didn't have the ability to spot the boulders prior to selecting the landing site.
STS1 Used a combination of auto and manual for decent and landing. It was planned that way as a means of testing the auto system and a pilots ability to fly the damn thing if the auto went south. Again, no failure of the auto system, but a systematic approach to flight testing.

The telemetry feed on this launch was a bunch denser. They should have good data on the issues. FAA will not be impressed they signed off on a we got it this time mission.

Watched the video but have you looked at the comments? Uhm, I think it's fair to say that a lot of folk are not doing a very good job of expressing their misgivings other than in childish obscenities. Sad state of affairs and does not bode well for the future of balanced debate.
