Valve adjustor screw (tappets)

Have you actually looked into order the first type(captive ball type)? I believe they look like the same ones that I came across and tried to order, but the company didn't seem to exist. I thought maybe it was a scam or something. If you find out that they are available is be interested.if I'm not mistaken they fit the stock holes and threads where as the elephant feet (the second option) require drill and tapping.
No found this set in the bins so will use those.

Now that you mentioned it I'll double check fit, but the one I threaded in seemed fine.

Hi Gary:

I put them in Lucille and since then I've put about 15,000 km (nearly 10 K miles) on them without problems. The need for valve adjustments seems to be reduced.

As for the reduced thread engagement - the rule of thumb is that anything over one diameter of thread engagement in steel (like the rocker arms) is OK. If the rockers were a softer material like brass or aluminium, you'd want about two diameters.

Anyhow, I looked at it and concluded that it is fine.

That spec include bolts used as full time pile drivers? Asking for Madness sake.

Yup - that is a general rule of thumb in mechanical engineering and the ones I’m using have been fine.

But again, the assumptions are that the male threaded part is steel (which is virtually always the case) and the female threaded part is also steel.

If the female part is softer (aluminium, brass, copper etc.) then more engagement is required - at least two thread diameters is common for those metals and for threads into polymeric components, it could be 3-4 diameters for full strength.

Been running cb's since 2008 and many 10's of thousands of miles. Only problem is I snapped one off years ago torquing them to the spec for my 78. I now torque them to vw specs 13 ft lbs and no more problems. Adjustments are at least half as frequent as stock and much quieter even with the wider than stock clearance required by my cam.

Honestly I think this ☝️ is a better answer.
There's some in the USA

It's in the back of my mind some SR500 guyz had an issue with them?
Went looking, it's well covered

I may assemble with stock adjusters and order the Kedo
The valve stem tips tend to get hammered a bit.

So Gary, with the stuff you listed, I assume you're going to try to make your own screws?
thinking about it and design variations!
pretty sure that's what some vender, supplier, Kedo? is doing now.
DPS650rider has a valid point.
Ole madness has seen the wrong side of redline a few times too many.
some sort of ball retainer possible, needed? mebby 5mm ball, swage the screw end....
