Waking up dad's TX650 in Colorado

I've had several with welded or brazed rear seams, no issues for me. I did (re) line the original tank on the 73 I'm working on now. This is the second original 73 tank I've had that didn't have a repaired rear seam. It was pretty rusty behind that first lining job...

We all get pretty excited, but a 5% failure rate would be enough to start a recall campaign. :cautious:

If I put in a liner I'd tip the tank while it dried so the rear seam had a good thick layer of liner and not worry.
It was my understanding that the later production bikes came with decal tanks rather than badges. Am I wrong on that? You don’t need no stinking badges!

I think it was service bulletin replacement tanks that didn't have the badges. But it could have been both? Guess it depends on when they realized they had an issue with that rear seam. Might have been some tanks changed out before the bike left the showroom...

Don't NEED them but I greatly prefer the look with the badge.
PS several other models used the same badge, the metal is soft enough that you can carefully shape it to fit different tanks, or change a LH badge to fit on the right.
