War on Drugs?

It's totally beyond me, I don't understand why you would take something into your body that takes away your control, that you know us addictive, that distorts your sense of reality. Life isn't easy, but it is what we make of it. But what would I know, I don't even drink really, haven't been drunk since my early 20s, don't see the point. I did have a few joints when in my late teens early 20s, but didn't like the feeling, same as being drunk, so I stopped.
Mind you I'm a recluse, I don't know anyone, I don't socialise with anyone, I don't like anyone, except the wife of course, so a social drink is not something I could be bothered with and taking drugs to deal with my problems is laughable!.
Let natural selection take it's course, that's the rule of nature, who are we to interfere!

Believing people only take drugs because they can’t “deal with their problems” is the only thing laughable.

I’ve said that too. And yet, even with alcoholism in my family, I went through a period of binge drinking, got myself addicted to nicotine and addicted to sugar. I forgive myself the last one as there’s no narrative against it, quite the opposite. I’ve also done a lot of other stupid stuff that’s off topic. Why? I wish I had an answer.

And why do you think they take take drugs, what's your laughable take on it?
Well, we used to take drugs because it was fun. But that was us. I don’t have a laughable take on addiction, because as much of an asshole as I am, I guess I’m just not THAT big of a dickhead

Let natural selection take its course? Sure, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and many forms of cancer, I can keep going for a long time on self afflicted disease processes, pretty much all preventable with good diet, lifestyle choices, and exercise, but let nature takes it’s course as these people chose to not lead healthy lifestyles. Lots of people make choices that aren’t the best for their health and if we took the approach of allowing natural selection to take its course more than half the population of “better living through chemistry” individuals over the age of 60 would already be gone. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and addiction just happens to be some peoples burden, it’s certainly not my place to judge.

In the end, all we can do is offer help to those in need. A firefighter friend of mine has administered Narcan to the same person multiple times in a 48 hour period. The cynical side of me says, "one shot at redemption", my faith says otherwise as I am not their judge. I know how many times I "quit" nicotine before I decided I really wanted to. I'm just not sure, as a society how many times we keep trying to save those who don't want help. Precious resources are being squandered, when there are people in distress through no fault of their own, who need help too. I just don't know.

The question arises.. the natural selection Is that not exactly what happens in Mexico. " A Failed State "
Paramilitary murderers have taken over and are buying corrupt Politicians
or for that matter in Ukraine .Putin is perhaps the stronger why should anyone intervene .Let Nature have its way.
Where it does not come together is that there are killers selling chemical substances fentanyl for ex
that are taking lives .And the higher ups are making fortunes. .
making a farce of not Only the job they have taken In Law enforcement .. .But also democracy as an idea
Hypocrisy ?? Is that the new social, order .. And are we going to have it as in Mexico.
Maybe it is so already.
No stiffer sentences for the Profiteers .. and Money Launderer just cut the wires to Offshore Banks
Sorry closed via democratic order

Is it illegal it should not exist .. is it legal OK then it is a personal choice.
The situation .. it is dangerous and illegal BUT Who cares .. Is on the slippery slope towards a failed state.
buying the Sheriff and the Shooters and getting richer.. Like Feudal Lords or Plantation Owners

I completely understand that question and feel it’s weight. I can’t begin to tell you how many patients with addictions I’ve taken care of month after month, year after year. I can say the same however for a lot of my heart failure patients. There’s no magic number I’ve ever been able to come up with nor any definitive way of saying time to give up. Life is precious in my mind and I don’t believe in giving up on it. I’m of firm mind with that being said that we need to take a more progressive and preactive approach to handling drug addiction. We need more resources to stop people from using in the first place and more post acute resources for those who are in the midst of addiction.

I couldn't agree more on the need to be proactive on the use and abuse of ALL substances. After a herniated disc, I was given an Rx for Oxy and Zoma. Take one of each of those and you don't care about anything, so I kind of understand the attraction. However, although I'm not the brightest Crayon in the box, I realize how destructive that can be. People today seem to have lost the ability to cope with life's ups and downs. Mood modifiers have always been with us, but I don' think it was this bad in the past. I guess that for me, although I'm not rich and have certainly had my share of failures, tragedies and disappointments in life, I'm happy and content overall, and I know that helps in that I have no need to feel "better".

I don't take sides on this issue, but let's tell the truth. Re. the AR15, asserting that its slug is"only" .22 cal and implying that it's no more lethal than a .22 rimfire round is dishonest. The AR15 pushes its .22 cal.slug with a centerfire cartridge with one bigass powder charge. "Not particularly powerful" compared to what? A .50 cal. sniper rifle? The military full auto version, uses the same high velocity round, and has, for better and worse and all points between, stacked up bodies like cordwood.

Well, we're all different aren't we? I made a choice years ago to start smoking, now I'm paying for it, I'm now on my fourth go on the cancer merry go round. I also have diabetes (not my fault), high BP, RA, widespread OA and a few other problems. My youth was spent taking risks and pushing my body way past it's limits, nature is taking its course. I probably don't have long to go, sooner or later the cancer or my wayward youth will catch up with me (natural selection). I can live with that (or die, no matter to me). I'm happy to leave the world to the more deserving and healthier, that's the way it should be!

Compared to 30.06, .308 .270.... Many states will not allow the use of the .223 cartridge for deer hunting as it tends to not kill quickly and humanely. I'll take a M-1 Garand or a 1917 Springfield any day for lethality, both of which stacked up a hell of a lot more dead bodies than the M-16.
