Been fighting off the urge to buy a new truck for several months now. The 2013 Tundra is still dependable but has cosmetic issues and increasingly frequent minor-ish mechanical issues. Prices have been a great deterrent, but the itch is still there. Every other week or so I cruise the dealer websites hoping to find a unicorn.

I've owned a herd of GM's and I'm done with them for a few reasons. Three Dodge trucks, and I'm 1 for 3 on them. New ones don't have a great reputation at least around here. Toyota quit offering the V8 in their trucks so that's a deal breaker for me. I tow the tractor and equipment and I'm damned if I'll beat a turbo V6 to death doing it. That pretty much leaves Ford and I've been trying to get a ford dealer to talk sense since the 70's with no luck.

This morning I spotted a 2024 F250 SuperDuty, XL trim, standard cab short bed, 4WD, towing package, 6.8 V8 at a price point that was doable with a little tweaking. Spent most of the day on the phone and texting and playing the game. Of course the truck on the website was essentially bait-and-switch (well, that's with this discount and that incentive and doesn't take into account the undercoating and spray in bedliner, etc. etc.) but we finally struck a deal on a similar truck at another branch of that dealer. Not thrilled with the trade in value on the Tundra but that's all smoke-and-mirrors anyway and the final price is where it needs to be. Being a model year old saves me a little on registration and excise tax too. Pick it up tomorrow.

You can't take the cash with you when you're gone
"Hey kids now that dad is gone who wants his truck "

As mentioned elsewhere, 2024 F250 SuperDuty, XL trim, 6.8 "Minigodzilla" gasser, 10 speed auto. Offroad package, towing package. Single cab, 8 foot bed.

I bought this truck over the internet based on the build sheet, pictures and the negotiated price. Had I done the deal in person from the start I might not have bought this exact truck. The main reason for that is the Offroad suspension and the 33" tires. Thing rides like a tank, and steers about the same. On smooth or reasonably smooth roads all is good. On busted up Spring thaw roads, its HORRIBLE! Barely managed 20-30MPH but to be honest two of the three roads going out of town are completely falling apart. Even in the luxo-mobile car you have to slow way down and steer around the potholes and frost heaves.

Other than that, I like it and I like the features. Vinyl buckets and rubber floormats - an actual TRUCK! I can see where the 360° camera view is going to come in handy, especially the hitch view and the in-bed view. I need to play with the center dash display to see what data I want to view and what screen colors/formats are available. Right now I keep it turned off as the clock view is too bright.

It's a tall booger with the 33's, so the side steps are appreciated. Came with spray-in bedliner, also appreciated. View from the cab and mirrors is good. View over the front is a little limited and will take some getting used to. The "parking" mode of the camera has come in handy already to judge where the front bumper is.

So basically I'm happy and think I'll get happier as I transition from what was essentially an SUV with a really large trunk (the Tundra) to an actual work truck.

Congrats on the new truck. In my past life, just before retiring, we bought a new company work truck, F250 Super Duty, much the same as yours. Nice vehicle but i remember it had quite the harsh ride and when towing it liked to drink fuel quickly. Overall a great truck though. I’m sure you’ll have many years of enjoyment driving it.

Well, that's kinda neat.

Backing up to the shop to load the new toolbox on the truck. I have a BFR set to the left of the door so I was watching the backup camera as I backed closer. Apparently, the truck thought I was getting TOO close to the rock as it started beeping at me.

I don't think I've ever owned a truck that didn't end up with a ding or bend in the back bumper eventually. This might be the first!

Did you know you can spend nearly $2000 on a cross-bed toolbox? GASP!

There's a nice one for about half that but now is not the time so I went with a (relatively) cheapo Deep Homo/Husky unit for $385 after my military discount. It'll do until my checkbook heals up a bit.

Looking at folding or rollup tonneau cover too. I really liked the BakFlip folder on the Tundra, if they make one that can accommodate the tool box that's probably the way I'll go. But that's another $1500 I don't have at the moment so it'll be a while. Before next Winter I hope, I hate needing to shovel the snow out of the box before I can use it.

Another neat feature: When you hit the door locks, it also locks the tailgate. With a locking cover that makes for at least some security if you leave stuff in the bed.
