What have you done to your XS today?

TW, your ignition switch is from a Standard model. See post #8 here .....

Like many, it seems you didn't do a 100% refurb job, not cleaning and lubing the lock cylinder itself. They usually need this and can be pretty crusty .....

I'll admit it: if key turns stiff, spray in a bit of rust buster, work it a few times, if it starts turning smooth, free, I'll let that sleeping tumbler dog lie.

I had a 1 day break from 2 days of yard work and started the @gggGary 8 plate clutch swap. I am glad that I purchased Allen head clutch bolt conversion kit. The #3 JIS screws are really wienered up. I used Mrs teamWicked's favorite pie pan to soak the new friction plates I M/C oil and then assembled. I got to the 2 last friction plates and had no metal plate to put in. Searched the areas the plates had been then recounted the installed friction disc's and discovered 2 metal disc's together between a pair of friction disc's, ha ha, I did not take a picture. Then using the new clutch screws and inserts, buttoned it up. Torque to 72lb/in, then 84.

I seem to remember that the hole in the pressure plate indexes to the mark on the basket. So I did. Now figure out the Kickstart assy because I got it wrong when I did the heavier springs bandaid.

I sorted out a month long search for stumbling after warm up and finally (finally!!) solved it with an additional ground from motor to frame. Phew. But for fun I repurposed an oil filter band wrench for fuel bottle mount. Short of weld on threaded bosses I’d like some nicer looking clamps as an alternative to hose clamps. Maybe these … ? https://www.amazon.ca/10pcs-Stainle...ocphy=9001596&hvtargid=pla-866376011918&psc=1

MOTOGADGET MOTORSCOPE CLASSIC SPEEDO (Chrome Bezel)
Pulled the trigger and bought one of these; it completes the Motogadget rewire component list.

It will replace the VAPOR unit below I currently have, which works well; but I dont like the looks.

That speedo looks awfully like KPH rather than MPH to me ...
I hope you ordered one with the right units, that's a lot of dosh for what could become a constant irritation! My SR500 had a KPH speedo but it's now wearing one from an XS650 I got from one of our members in Florida. So much less hassle.

Hi Nighthog
You are correct; the image was from the German website.
I bought from an English supplier with UK stock.
All units are configurable for MPH or KPH; both the dial & LCD display.

I have corrected a dirty ignition switch, installed a @gggGary 8 plate clutch, correctly installed the kick start and now am wrestling with the bottom plate to check the screen filter element. The plate doesn't move after the 6 bolts are removed. How much force do I apply?

My experience has been to tap opposing corners with a rubber mallet
