TABLE TO BENCH.......
Persevering with a wobbly patio table to work on is no pleasure.

So I built me a proper work-bench using stud wall timber and some surplus wardrobe end panels.
Good work height, and solid as a rock; fixed to the wall with frame anchors.
It can be dismantled and moved when necessary. Ready for a proper vice and pillar drill!

Well boys you haven't heard from me because Wheezie has been flawless for quite some time so I have been riding the wheels off her. But it happened tonight, I fired her up to head to bike night did a quick clutch adjustment dropped her in gear and she went dead. No neutral light no ignition. A quick check of the fuse box shows everything good, horn and turn signals work with the key on battery voltage 12.6. So I'm hoping the XS wizards have an Idea where to start and maybe a link or 2? It was awful considerate of her to die at home. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Check the ground strap, then;
Any old test light, a turn signal bulb works great, start at the battery and head towards the fuse box.
The factory fuse clips are NOTORIOUS for rotting no longer gripping the fuse.

So the hot comes from the battery and goes to the main fuse then wires go up to the ignition switch and back to feed the other three fuses.

Been in the headlight bucket lately? Iggy switch connector coming loose isn't common, but it's happened.

Your bike is 1983, correct? Have you deactivated the sidestand switch? If the sidestand was down and you put the bike in gear, it would die. Check the sidestand switch.

Good catch Marty. Yeah, put an '83 in gear and it thinks the stand is down, it kills power to the TCI box.
If you haven't already, I'd deactivate that system.

Admissions here. Couple times I surprised my self cuz I don't have a side stand switch. Almost ouch does not count as an ouch.

I've rode off with an XS sidestand down enough (OK... a lot) to know that it is its own warning system. A little bump and off we go... no harm no foul.

CB900F, stopped to fiddle with something, took off with sidestand down. Felt the bump in a LH sweeper at speed, ended up tipped over on it's right side on a grassy shoulder. Nothing serious 'cept it took out the stator, them Honda stators are kinda sensitive 'bout getting bumped.

I once took off on my first 650 with the stand down
When it was all over with I had jumped the curb and ended up in the middle of someone's yard
Didn't dump it but the young gal riding behind me wasn't impressed but the boys thought it was one hell of a stunt

Only bike I ever recall dropping 'cause of the stand was a Commando with it's side stand that can double as a golf club. Damn thing slapped me down right now. With my XS it's such a common occurrence I don't really pay may much attention anymore. Gettin' old sucks...

Installed a new dash with voltmeter integrated. Used a spare dash and did some cutting and fab work. I *barely* managed to mount it under the triple tree by slotting the mount points.

Nice job. The tacho with the idiot lights looks the same as on my SR500. Makes for a very tidy dash

MY WIFE WILL THROTTLE ME.......!
The Domino products are great but none would fulfill my application.
After struggling to find any decent quality (read 'not Chinashite' plastic) throttle assemblies something pooped into my in-box from REVIVAL USA.

Now thats more like it; but didn't want the hassle and expense of shipping into the UK.
Also means the cable comes straight off the front of the unit.

A quick search on Google brought up a supplier with stock in the UK via eBay:

I also bought some grips from eBay too:

OK this little lot was a bit pricey, but quality counts if you want the right finish and reliability.
Better include @JesseeS as he might be interested in these.

Coo, that's more than I've ever paid for a throttle. Like those grips though . . .
